Pacific works xbox challenge win stuff!

Post by Driftlimits Performance »

Yo people!

Right, something I have wanted in the workshop for a long time. An xbox!
The idea is to have a top gear style lap time board. When waiting for your car, crack out a few laps, fastest is noted, and the quickest after a period of time will win an SFS complete pipe kit. Or free labour on the next few jobs.

The game will be forza 3 (until 4 is out!)

Questions are:

-which track
-any car or MR2 only?
-or another game?

Let me know which track and car. I vote for Nurburgring.

I'd be up for this. I love prizes.

might be a bit complex of a track for some as its a big unfair advantage for poeple.. where as smaller tracks mean they get more practice

Only driver aids should be hands, feet and head.

which layout of Maple Valley ?

On the 3 mile layout one I managed 1:54, second time I've driven on that track at all. :P

Using the MR2 GT (not Toms - it's slower according to Forza's stats :D)

Lets confirm what assists can be used.

I run with full manual gears and clutch. If you run auto you aren't even going to get anywhere close to a good time.

Abs on but i can happily turn it off

Everything else off.

We could just save some time and send me the hose kit now.

Project Gotham racing as you don't need to unlock the MR2 or half the tracks when you turn it on, althou its not as playable as Forza.

I've not played it in a while as I lost all my faith when I got GT5 :(

Oh and went a little crazy with the toms MR2 I have, it now has to much power and not enough control :D

What about LeMan's? massive long straight and some nice bends (the one without the 2 chicanes down the main straight)

Got boost?

I havent been on for a while, i can't remember my times anymore.

If you change the controls on the pad so that shift up is blue button, shift down is red, and clutch is green it can be done.

As you want to change gear you press the clutch, then as you press the shift button, you release both buttons at the same time, tiny delay between letting go of gear and clutch button. Sort of like rolling your thumb across the two buttons.

Over an averagre lap it's worth about a second as long as you get it right 100% of the time, if not you'll rag the xxxx out of your engine and it'll be a smoker before long.

Can I suggest a board for "No driver aids" and one for "Limited driver Aids"? I need ABS and manual (no clutch) as that's just how I drive and will struggle to do everything. I thi k turn the rest off though.

Car wise, the standard garage MK2 MR2 turbo. Could do the MK3 but wouldn't be competitive without mods :S

Yeah I'm thinking of only allowing abs. Mt/at at your discretion.

Have you tried setting up the car to not use ABS?... I'll show you how to make your brakes work nicely.

1. Turn off ABS

2. Set the brake force down to about 20%, so you cannot lock any of your wheels under full braking.

3. Turn up the brake force untill the wheels just start to lock under full braking. Take note of which wheels lock up first.

4. Adjust the bias of the front to rear brake force so that all wheels lock at the same time.

5. The idea is that under full braking you get the all 4 wheels lock at the same time, Now reduce the total pressure so that the wheels just don't lock and are on the edge of locking up.

6. Drive lots of laps. Rinse and repeat.

7. Now turn ABS back on and increase total pressure by one or two notches. Now the brakes are tuned.

8. Now drive lots of laps again and feel the superior brake setup over other drivers. You can outbrake most cars now, unless they have a reason why they can stop better eg much bigger, stickier tyres etc.

You will need to do this for all different types of tyres and car masses. Then you can start getting track specific, adjust it to the front for tracks like Road America where you have big braking straights and to the rear for twisty tracks so you can be stable in the braking turns.

Next is gear ratio tuning. I can show you how to full throttle off the line with no wheelspin. My supra through the mid range is just incredible.
