[Mk2] [Turbo] I the stock wiring ok for rear 6x9's?

Post by dellams »

On 50W RMA per speaker?

I am using a Sony head unit which puts out 50x4 but I am pushing all sound to the rear for the 6x9's, does that mean they will be getting 100 each or just 50 still?

Its only a temp solution for now, till I can sort it properly.

So
(a) Wanted to check if the stock wiring will be ok?
(b) Which 6x9's do you recommend?

The few I have tried so far from Halfords are ok but start breaking up if I go to about medium sound levels and hardly have any base, even with DBASS3!

Could connections and stock wiring effect this?

it will be 50W peak, and probably around 15WRMS per channel - stock wiring will handle that fine.

How are you wiring it? One channel per 6x9, or are you bridging channels? Most head units wont like that, wouldnt reccomend doing it.

Personally I wouldnt reccomend any 6x9's, I would always recommend a nice set of component speakers in the doors and perhaps a sub behind the seat. If they must be 6x9's, I wouldnt go for any of the ones Halfords do, or any audio stuff from there - its either xxxx, or a lot cheaper online.

Yeah one channel per 6x9.

Their only a temp solution, eventually when I know if Im keeping the car or not, ill do it properly with a sub, amp, component speakers, etc...

Fair enough.

How much you wanting to spend on them?

Reason they will distort at higher volumes is because the HU has a relatively low output, and its output at higher volumes with have a pretty high total harmonic distortion, and worst case may be clipping a lot (which also adds to THD). So, you may find that no matter what 6x9's you get, they will all 'break up' at higher volumes.

Arrrr, bu88er, yeah that makes sense.

Will try a decent pair like these:

And if still distort, will have to either just stick with it or decide whether im keeping car or not before I do a proper amp install, etc.

Around £100 but for the right ones no limit really, but thought they were all around that mark?

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/hertz-d ... x-690.html

If it was my money, I would go for one of the above, simply because as a speaker brand both Hertz and Focal generally outperform Pioneer.

The problem with all of these is they would be much happier running at 50WRMS+, not 10-15WRMS!
