i'm sure they make an auto tubby, my mate is a toyota mechanic and claims to have driven one, this is the ONLY reason that i think they made one, i'm gonna have to research this now :)

The answer would have to be no, i've just looked through the Toyota EPC and there is no data for an Auto fitted with a 3s-gte.

It's definately doable, Mr2big on the OC is running a turbo on an Auto box and Goldy on TB has a flappy paddle shift kit available to turn the Auto box into a fully sequential shifter, we tested it out on a Camry 2 years ago and it worked very well.

Mr2big has the flappy paddle kit on his Mr2 Auto V6 as well.

Nope never heard of an auto 3SGTE. Pretty glad really, I hate autos

Shame the majority of Twin turbo supras are auto :(

(all imo of course )

Even though I dislike autos, I admire the effort and skill gone into Goldy's project

Hmmm .. my knowledge of auto boxes is minimal.

I wonder what the N/A box is good for power wise .... wouldnt need to be masses , 400 tops.

I remember seeing Goldy's flappy paddle mod and thought it was clever at the time .. would certainly look into it if whats in my head is possible!

weren't auto boxes much much more fragile than the NA ones?

I run an ST215W Caldina with rev4 3SGTE & autobox and it's a superb box. Obv. 4WD so no good for an MR2, but there are quite a few 2WD boxes Toyota that will handle the torque I'd have thought? Caldina with Beams was offered with 2WD auto, but still much less torque involved.

I'm quite fancying trying to get flappy paddles working with one of the newer 5 or 6 speed boxes off the avensis / rav4, I think it could be pretty entertaining in an mr2

Nathan, why not have a look at the auto box fitted to the 2GRFE? Since we can bolt the E153 up to the engine it follows that you should be able to swap the auto box from the V6 to the 3SGTE... There are both 2wd and 4wd versions of this box, but the issue you'll always find when trying to make an MR2 4wd is that the transfer case is on the wrong side of the box...

Cheers Patrick, it's not for an MR2 ... its for the beloved bB!

After looking under the car yesterday I think 4wd would be a big task ... my thinking was that seeing as they made a 4wd bB it should be possible but not without some major mods that i'm not enthusiastic enough to do!

I will look into one of these.. I take it you don't have any ?

No, but as soon as my supplier locates another 2GRFE I could get one across. I'll let you know.

The Caldina boxes have flappy paddles as standard - okay they don't change gear in DSG times, but it does do what you want in relatively short order.
