[Mk2] [NA] Exhaust Manifolds

Post by MarkDon »

So, the whole "not spending any money on it" idea is slowly going out of the window

The car is a 1991 g-limited with a sebring backbox & blitz filter with hard pipe. The exhaust seems to be blowing from various places, and i've been bored at work browsing the bay of e.

The car is depressing me now, so i feel a splurge of cash on something like this might cheer me up

Came accross these manifolds (from different sellers, all seem to be the same manifold i think)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-MR2-SW20-N ... 19bf9f03c1

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-MR2-MK2-N- ... 2eb207ebfc

Now i'm not expecting a massive gain from this, but i figured they dont seem too expensive, and will get a decat at the same time, like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-MR2-EXHAUS ... 4cf50c858c

Now, the question is, has anyone fitted one? Do they fit ok? any issues?

Will replace all gaskets & bolts on system.

Next, i guess the standard heatshield wont fit back on for obvious reasons, so will a single or double application of heatwrap do the trick? I would do the whole thing from the flange to the backbox entry.

Any reason why i shouldnt fit these??

Cheers.

How long have you had it fitted? Does it blow or good fit on flanges?

Are you using a heatshield or wrap at all?

I had it on my first mr2 for about a year no it fitted well and never blew I looked after it and polished it all the time and the finish held up really well. Am buying on for my current 2 when I get the funds together lol

Oh and don't use heatwrap on it it causes too much heat buildup and causes the Mani to crack

We had it fitted to a 1991 car, so i guess it will fit, i can take some photos of the stud pattern but im sure some one will be able to say if it will fit or not.

that exhaust is for the rev1 and 2 n/a, specifically.

its unusual in that it keeps the 4-2-1 design which helps keep low end torque but is much lighter than the standard kit, plus doesnt have the woven flex which perishes on standard mid pipes.

this is my dream manifold system and was added to my wish list quite some time ago, but ive never gotten round to saving up for one.

I would think twice about decatting it. Definitely keep the cat handy, so you can put it back on if you miss the low end grunt that you lose.

It does make it louder, and I can see how it could potentially free up a few horses at the upper end of the revs, but the loss in low down grunt was a deal breaker for me on an N/A.

do a little search for n/a manifold and thats pretty much what you will get in all the results, the ebay special. all of the ebay specials are for the rev3+ cars or the FE, so a 4-1 manifold and single pipe mid-pipe with the lambda in the manifold. be sure you buy a GE not an FE, if the sales person doesnt know the difference i would buy else where!

some have been altered on the manifold flange to fit the rev1/2 but the lambda socket is in the wrong place on the manifold instead of the mid pipe as required for these earlier cars.

in all fairness the standard manifold is pretty damn good, its only weight that i would really be interested in as theres almost no power gains to be achieved.
