In-car camera mount... Who uses what???

Post by J-1 »

What are you guys using for mounting your cameras inside the car??

I'm having a look online, and I think it'll be easy enough to make something myself

Any opinions/suggestions?

I've used 2 steel bars bolted together around the headrest + a tripod mount on the end. Unfortunately mounting anything to the seat results in a wobbling picture...

I think a suction mount to the back window is one of the best options, unless you have a rollcage that you can bolt stuff to :)

I was just about to buy the parts for that... A straight 3/4" tube, with 4 U-bolts for the head rest. How wobbly would it be?

Got a link to the suction mount ones for the rear window?

I modified a camera suction mount when I was looking for how to mount my Link Display unit.

I'm sure this is the one I got from Fastfilms -sticks like the proverbial on the inside of my windscreen and the display is quite heavy...

(I don't remember paying that much for it but it was a few years ago since I bought mine now, it is a well made piece of kit though)

Not sure if that's any use to you?

Cheers

That suction one looks good.

It's basically just for your every day digital camera. It's a Samsung L313.

I'm assuming that would fit on to the suction one.

I've got a proper track camera for sale gives you front and rear camera input you can either hard wire into the car or use the cigar lighter saves on SD up to 16g it also has gps shock and g sensor. I've put some in track cars and a few race cars. Let us know if your interested.

go pro HD with suction mount. You can use them on track as long as you provide a secondary tether (zip tag or something).

..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

May 2015
just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...

I've used a B-Hague sourced suction mount for many years ( see http://www.b-hague.co.uk/camera_suction ... mounts.htm, SM1 ) , with an external bullet cam and a camcorder inside the car.

So long as that is tethered too the marshals have been happy with it on the outside of the car - they're only really concerned about it falling off and then another car ( esp a single seater / open cockpit driver ) collecting it.
