[Mk2] [NA] Crank pulley removal

Post by abovetherim »

Hi the guys and girls
Gonna be taking the crank pulley off but gatting together the stuff i need.

Can anyone tell me the thread size for the 2 holes in the pulley to a) hold it with a special home made tool to undo the bolt and b) to then pull it off with a puller??

It looks about M8 from memory but this being a toyota will the pitch be standard M8 whatever that is.

Thanks in advance

You are correct in that it is a standard M8 :thumleft:

Good luck :)

..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

May 2015
just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...

Thanks for that skywalker

5 mins pondering how to lock off the crank then 10 mins and a 4 foot bar to get the leverage to over come the pulley nut and job done.

As the engine is on a stand i put in a couple of the flywheel bolts and then a lever in them that wedged on the stand. Then a 4 foot bar over my breaker bar and a little heave ho and the bolt was off.

I had been told the pulley wouldn't need a puller but i had to use a puller to release it. Because of this thread i had 2 m8 bolts to hand for this.

Funily enough a mate offered to loan me his compressor and air tools yesterday. I think he just wants to store them in my garage and not his lol

Over the years i have "adapted" tools and bits of metal to get the job done but now i try and get the right tool first time.
If the engine wasn't on the stand with the flywheel off i would have locked it off that way with plate and 2 bolts in the flywheel and the block. (thats how i locked it to undo the flywheel to crank bolts.
