Front wings.

Post by un1eash »

Hi, ive put the mk1 back on the road and the only rust is on the front wings. Drivers side being the worse. Does Mr T still supply front wings and roughly how much or should i just get some fiberglass ones.

Cheers.

Last I heard they were still supplying them Chris. Worth a call to confirm though.

I believe Honeybourne are still doing them too. :thumleft:

Yes, £110ish from Toyota for a new unpainted steel front wing.

You can probably sell your old wings on ebay as well..

Doubt it but unless they are a complete mess, they may be better than wings on other Mk1s. I've sold a couple of pretty rusty wings for £40 each before, went to a chap who rallies a Mk1, he was happy with them.

I know Tim (Cartledge_UK) has a pair of fiberglass wings that he is removing from his SC.

Maybe drop him a pm.

There is a few other factors though, fitting quality, changing the weight at the front end, how they take paint..

I'd go Mr T while they are still available.

I think i'll just get metal MrT ones, they should bolt straight on and its not like they'll rust anytime soon if painted properly.

The weight differential is minimal toe honest, certainly not enough to change the handling. As for fitment, they have been ok from what my mehcanic has said. To me its cheaper and an investment in the future of the vehicle by cutting down on rusty parts.

For a wing in A1 condition which is the right colour for the car I can understand paying more than the price of a new one as by the time you've had a new one painted and applied stripes etc it can easily top £200

We've got the honeybourne wings on our sprint car. For most cars they're a 'good enough' option but if you want your car looking perfect then you either need to put in a bit of time fettling the FG ones or stick with steel.

If you or whoever fits them takes time and care with the fibreglass wings then fit and finish can have a factory look and feel. This can make the overall initial cost greater than that of fitting new MrT wings and having them painted. The principle advantage is of course rust, or rather the lack of it. If you are going to keep the car a long time as well then you'll only be fitting the wings once...
