Thought I'd show some pics of my new 245/40-17 falken 452's on 9j rotas with 215/40-17 Goodyears up front on 8j Rotas both wheels have 35et, rears are going to need to have the arch rolled as its rubbing over bumps, car has been lowered on -30mm Apex springs.

245/35/17's would have kept the rolling radius the same as stock also might not have rubbed. Arch enemy will roll your arches.

Going by the calcutator I use my old 235/40-17's are 620mm tall ,245/35-17's would be 604 tall, my new 245/40's are 628mm tall.

When on the 235's the speedo was bang on all the way to 80, The 245's are spot on up to 30,not been alot faster due to the rub but they will be a little out at 70.

Don't mind doing the arch roll as I'm tempted to fit tein S springs at -40,but we shall see. http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

Cheers chaps,no the car is black,it was clean last week and then...well you know how the story goes....rain.

Had a eureka moment yesterday too,I've had a suspension rattle on the front for ages and have been trying to cure it,normal stuff done topmounts, lower balljoints droplinks, arb bushes.

Once I've had the car jacked up and the lowered the car the noise is not so bad, then after a few miles its back to its rattley normal self, I reckon its the spring coils clanking together, had discounted that a while ago but the coils have the rubbing marks so just need to find some type of tubing (can't think of the right word) to slip on the coils like the Tein s springs have.

Stock mr2 tyre size is 225/50/15 and 245/35/17 is virtually dentical rolling radius

altho 245/35 is correct, a 245/40 looks so much better, epseically when youve got 40 on the fronts to...

i wouldnt be to worried about it being slightly bigger than stock RR..

Makes the speedo more accuarate in my experience.

My speedo over read by 1mph running 17x9 245/40, compared to 4-5mph with stock tyre sizes.

That's down to the individual, IMHO these looks great and are 245/35 but beauty is in the eye of the beholder :D

I don't see no comparison to a 245/40 there??
So obviously yes a 245/35 can look fine, just a 40 looks more fitted and chunky especially with a 40 up front.

I went from a 35 to 40 and it improved the look and felt less harsh on the road.

I'd agree with Jim, a 40 profile on a 17 looks "right" to me. 255 especially as it actually looks like the right size tyre for a 9J wheel, whereas(despite being fine to fit) 245 or 235 are starting to look at little herrafrush y0.

I went from 255/40 to 235/40 when I had my bbs and the 235 just looked wrong IMO. Too narrow.

if you have a 215/40 up front, then a 245/35 on the rear will match it for looks much better, as we all know... the second number of a tyre measurement is a percetage of the tyre width, not the height of the sidewall in mm.

I'll prob go for the 245/35 myself now after seeing plenty pics, and purely for ease of fitment. But chunkier rubber is always that bit nicer visually 8)

No offence taken for my "Monster truck look :-k "

Horses for courses really, all we are really talking about is a 24mm overall difference,my tyres sit 12mm further into the wheel arch than if it was with 245/35,and to be fair when it was on 235/40 I hated the gap left even with -30 Apex springs, but now the stance looks much nicer. With -40mm springs then I'm sure the 35's look very good, that yellow one for sure :thumleft:

Also the standard tyres were a different height, only 12mm and with my sizes they do differ but with 215/40-17 and 245/35-17's they are the same at 604mm.

One other thing,Camskill quote the Falken 245/35 at £92 but the same make on a 40 series is only £79.

Rolling my arches at the weekend, hired an Ebay jobbie for £60 :thumleft:
