[Mk2] [Generic] Rota Torque Drift on MR2 mk2?

Post by shortie »

Hi Guys,

Just bought myself a 1995 Carribian Blue MR2 and the old modifying bug has bitten me again already after a brief spell away!

I've fallen in love with the Rota Torque Drifts but I'm unsure if the sizes i want will fit, I'm hoping you can help!

I'm wanting to run 17x8 (35mm offset, assume this will be fine?) on the front and 17x9 (12mm offset, the one I'm unsure about) on the rear. But i'm not sure if they'll fit?

If it makes any difference, I was thinking of running 215/40/17 on the front and 245/35/17 on the back to keep rolling radii about the same. Does this sound right?

fronts - fine (might need a couple of mm spacer with some coilovers)
rears - will stickout the arch 23mm

i'd go with 245/40 on the back, previously had 245/35's. better comfort with the 40 + my speedo is gps accurate - well at least when the tyres are new :eye:

yep 9" et35 is flush on the back

i've got a set of 9" et29 which are the lowest offset i'd go as the tyre treads (245/40) are still under the arch.

stick with ET35 all round

I've just bought a set of rota torques and they're 8j at the front ET 35 and 9j ET35 at the rear

Do you have a photo of them on the car mate?

So 17x8 F and 17x9 R should go on no problems?

What are the best size tyres to use on these? Would I still be ok with 215/40/17 on the front and 245/35/17 on the back?

not yet mate as i've only just bought them and they have 45 profile tyres on them so i dont think i'll put them on untill i have a decent tyres on there

I'm eyeing up a set of toyo R1R's for the rear as Jim GTS ravs about them and they are not bad on the price front either.

I looked at the federal 595r which are in the same league as the R888's but with them the 235/40's are the same size as the normal 245's. I think this is due to having a thicker side wall. i'll look through my emails and have a look.

are you running stock suspension?

I'm thinking Toyo T1R's, or the Hankook Ventus EVO V12 thingies, get good reviews so might give them a go!

I haven't heard much about the Federals but my mate runs the Hankook track day tyres on his Evo 8 FQ 320 and seems to like them, might be worth a look.

The car is totally standard at the moment, I need to get some pictures up really, will do that at the weekend. I do intend to get some coilovers on there at some point though, but it wont be getting lowered much or it wont go on my drive! :(

R1R's are the next up from t1r and just below R888.

Federal's are used all over the drifting world

With coilovers you gotta watch out on the wider wheels incase they contact

Sounds good but I think track day tyres might be a bit much for what I want, is their performance in the wet up to normal road tyres?

Hopefully contact wont be an issue, but if it is, I'm guessing I'd just need to space the wheels a few mm?

Sorry about all the questions, this is my first Jap car after being a VAG man for the last few years, just trying to get my head around the little differences!

mine

17x8 front et35
17x9 rear et30

take note they are rota torques on the front
and torque DRIFTS on the rear

torque drifts do not fit on the front cos there only available in 9 upwards
and 35 offset on the rear looks pants it will be flush but only just and therefore is "densha" Hella all the way ftw

Just checked the speedo and when the speedo reads 30 mph gps reads 31 mph,and from there on up to 90 it reads a constant 1 mph over the gps

(All tests were conducted at my private test track on mars)
