Very interesting project Paul, wasn't Nod designing a v12 mk2 a year ago as well?

Looking forwards to seeing how you get on :)

Yes he certainly was, it was discussed on Twobrutal, his plan was to build a 4WD V12.

Leukaemia (A.L.L) stopped play on or my plans.

First block of chemo completed, 10.5 stone, can't eat, very weak, generally not a happy camper at the moment.

Would a boxster gearbox not be a suitable gearbox too?? Thinking of taking a leaf out your book and going V12 myself! Lol

Ah the Boxster gearbox is the same as the earlier Audi ones, same box that i used on the V8 Mk1, the output shafts are just too far back for a V12, every inch is vital so i think the only option that will work is the new 2010 A4/A5 box with its shafts right at the bellhousing, but even that has its complications.

Do you think the a4 2.0 tdi one would be ok? I see what you mean about the drive shafts, how far you cutting into the firewall I was thinking putting it right behind my seat. As I'm only 5'6 the seat is quite far forward lol Cheers for the knowledge. Don't think I'm trying to steal your idea or anything but just would love that v12!

No the more the merrier, i'm quite happy to share the knowledge.

I think it is still going to need all of the space behind the seats so i'll be into the same amount of work as the V8 mk1, new crossmember and reconstructed firewall. Bear in mind if you are going to run it on petrol you will need to shorten your fuel tank, that's a tricky job and slightly dangerous :D

Cheers! That's good news don't want to tread on your toes! I've got the fuel tank off already and was debating on shortening or fuel cell, after a while I though shortening the original would be better for weight distribution?

Yes i shortened the original on the V8 swap, make sure you wash it out thoroughly, let it breathe for a few days, wash it out again and when it comes to welding it fill it with water as much as you can, even then it's a dodgy affair!

Gotta live life on the edge lol 5.0, small tank, equals lots of petrol station visits lol love it. Hopefully have the tank ready this week!

Wouldn't it be a better idea to wait and see how much you need to shorten it by first?

That does sound like a smart idea, already getting carried away! Gotta get hold of a gearbox still, I think the diesel box ratios are to low? Gotta find a petrol one me thinks? How far you into your build now if you don't mind me asking?

i heard a story of guys using the carbon monoxide from exhausts going into the tank whilst welding etc will stop any ignition/explosion, dunno how true the story is, but i suppose it makes sense :D

Yeah i heard of that method too Sheppy, can't say i'm too keen on it, if there was any unburnt fuel in those exhaust gases....

All i have is the V12 at the moment, with a plan set out on how to go about it, i won't be officially starting until the V8 is 100% done otherwise i'll never finish it.

Right quick question, swapping the throttles round to the other end on noticed I had no problems! Now this I a problem cause there is no oil filler! How the he'll do you put oil in on this! Surely not through the dip stick???

There is no oil filler cap on your V12? Mine has the filler on the right bank at the rear of the engine, which will need moving for definate.

This is what I thought! But it's just like the left bank ! I had to double check your pics! Not a problem for the throttle move just how do I fill it up :-/

Well it's easy to weld in a filler neck but I'd be wanting to get to the bottom of why yours is missing
