newbie alert

Post by kirsty t »

Just saying Hi, I currently have a heavily modded ST (which we track fairly regularly) we looked at an 1990 2ltr turbo today its had quite a few mods & it is in good condition for its age the engine has been re-built & it sounds awesome :thumleft: would really appreiciate any advice! We are looking to track this as well as the ST & generally have some fun with it

Also can anyone explain how we'd tell if its a 2.2 stroker engine?

Thanks in advance

Kirst :D

Externally, I don't know of any real way of knowing for sure, other than receipts etc. Dropping the sump might prove for certain but it's not exactly something you can do when you're looking at buying the car!

Welcome to the club though, good luck with the purchase :)

This is the only way I can think of:

Step 1: take out a spark plug
Step 2: put in a length of dowel lightly in to the hole so that it sits on top of the piston
Step 3: wind the engine over by hand until the dowel goes as low as it can before it starts to come up again.
Step 4: put a mark on the stick with a pen
Step 5: wind the engine over again so the dowel comes up.
Step 6: mark the dowel when it won't go any higher again.
Step 7: measure the distance between the two marks

3S stroke (2.0): 86mm
5S stroke (2.2): 87.1mm

Good luck though, not much difference between the two!
