One person's

'fast' is another person's
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
'slow' so why not stick it in third gear at 2500 rpm on a flat clear road
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
(has to be flat) and measure how long it takes to get to 3000/4000/5000/6000rpm

Then compare it with others on here

I might take out my totally std 60k miles and fairly mint mk1b tomorrow

(first time in ages) so I could maybe take a few logs of the performance on the flattest road I can find

These days a mk1 MR2 isn't really a performance car in terms of straight line speed.

However, I do also have a mk1 1.6 Focus and the MR2 has a clear edge on the focus in terms of throttle response and acceleration.
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
This is no surprise as the Focus is a bit heavier? and only has 100bhp against the 122bhp of the MR2.

Even on the motorway the MR2 has a clear advantage in terms of response and acceleration when overtaking in top gear from 70 to maybe 85mph where the Focus can be a bit of a sluggish drag in comparison.
