I would suggest Bedford for first track day - safe place for beginners...

First track day I did was Castle Combe, quite simple to learn and flat but relatively high speed and not huge run offs.

Bedford Autodrome GT is also excellent for beginners, flat with loads of run off but plenty of corners to learn and very good tuition available.

Bedford's doesn't seem as excellent for beginners as I thought, because in the briefing on a track day earlier this year there we were told that yes there appears to be lots of run off in the central area there's also lots of debris including lumps of concrete ...

I'll bet you are hoping for a wet day.

I always find the cost of crashing at the Ring tends to keep me out of the barriers.

I did my first track day at the Nur.

If you like driving, you're gonna love it.

Are you taking a camera to record the laps?

I'm a fan of Bedford. It's only 20 min from me. Silverstone is about 40. I've done the corporate day at Bedford which is one of the best days to be had if you can get a company to stump up the grand for it. Did all 4 tracks in different cars. The single seater I was lucky enough to be in the group that did it at the end of the day so confidence and skill had crept up all day. We were warned not to put it in the barrier as they are 50 grand min to repair. I loved my time in that single seater comparing my telemetry to Justin Wilsons lap record. I wish I could spend all day in it. The single seater was on the south circuit I think.

I went back to Bedford on a Pistonheads barbecue track evening which was really good. It was in September and soaking wet, but we did the south west circuit, so longer straight with south and west circuits joined together.

Oh, and someone in our group who wasn't really a spirited driver, who had been getting more confident all day on the corporate outing, did put the single seater in the barrier. He was proper shook up, nose and wing and front wheel hanging off. Just got a couple of wheels on the grass and he was a passenger.

I did 1min 15 something in the single seater, Justins time was 1min 09.xx. Plenty of others were getting 1min 17 and some up to or over 1 min 20.
