Re-read your last statement as you completely contradicted yourself :P.

Didn't :-P

And cinemas have to have multiple speakers.
As I said, with external speakers there's no other option.

Head/ear phones on the other hand - you can have surround sound as long as there's some electronic processing delaying each channel to each ear differently

Yup! As above - contradicted yourself!!! As you say "you can't do proper multichannel audio from two external speakers." isn't that what headphones are? \:D/

So anyway, back to the original posters question. 2 speakers means stereo - whatever electronically you do to it! The eBay link product will work to a certain point by making a simulated prologic IIx sound but, £40 more buys you the real deal! True surround headphones with separate channels and the decoding software to make it work!

From my experience, there really isn't any comparison! :D

persoanaly i hate the trittons, they look damn ugly and dont perform as well as the astros (which also have multiple speakers per ear)

been reading about and whats said above is true you only need to speakers to get 5.1 or 7.1 :thumleft:

I wouldn't say headphones are external speakers at all.
The left ear can't hear what is pumped out by the right speaker etc.

And Dolby ProLogic does produce 'proper' (although limited) surround (with a ProLogic decoder). Just because it's encoded in a stereo signal doesn't mean it's just stereo

I'm bored now. Some people just don't get it

Still dont know whether to get the PX21 with the DSS, the Tritton AX Pro (I dont mind what my headset looks like really) or to wait and get the A40's. Not sure they are that much better to justify the cost

ive been reading about the astro vs tritton stuff since the end of last year, and everyone seems to say the astros are better, they are used at all the major gaming events and everybody seems to swear by them. i finally got some spare money so bought them without a second thought. the px21 is a great headset so it would be even better with the dss.
the astros are now £179 thats for the wireless or wired versions (i bought the wireless as the px21 wire is STUPIDLY long and gets messy easily)
the trittons are £150 at the min but are usually £160 so the astros arent much more expensive.

the wireless system which includes the headset and the mix amp/reciever is £180 i think, then the ps3 cable is £6
but if u have the normal wired mix amp you dont need the ps3 cable
mine came to £225 but i had a few extra bits
