I was flying the flag for the MR2s yesterday at Santa Pod in the Practical Performance Car £999 challenge in my £250 MR2 G-LTD. Basically, you buy and modify a car for less than £1k then race them up the 1/4mile and over a handling course. Unfortunately, due to a complete failure with my NOS system I 'only' managed 2nd place out of 43 entrants . I was beaten by a Celica GT4 (ST205), but did manage to beat a Supra Turbo, Saab Turbos, Rover VVC turbos, many 6 pot BMWs etc etc. Would've run the GT4 real close if the NOS would've worked, but never mind I'm pretty happy anyway
The car has a REV3 engine conversion which may be available as a complete package shortly as I think we might be going V6 for next year

Re: PPC £999 challenge
Good result, well done
I was unconvinced about how the ST205 fit into the £999 bracket... It must either be a cat c/d or have starship mileage!

Re: PPC £999 challenge
Ta fella,
The ST 205 was bought for about £800 with a mashed front and rear corner. Straightened out and MOT'd it scraped under budget. Shame we couldn't run the NOS as I think it'd have done low 13's and beat the GT4

Re: PPC £999 challenge
Your crappy mk2 didn't sound as good as my V8 924 though! Even if it was a lot faster.
Any plans for next year? Will the v6 still hit budget?

Re: PPC £999 challenge
Hopefully the V6 will be under budget and sounding much better!!
Will try to remember my ear plugs for next year if you enter again!!

Re: PPC £999 challenge
Hopefully I'll have sone kind of exhaust system and some slightly younger tyres for next year and maybe chopped springs. Same engine though.
Re: PPC £999 challenge
Went one better this year with a win in our V6 MR2
Just managed to pip a couple of Scoobys by taking a big chunk of time out of them on the handling course, and we were on road tyres this year
