[Mk2] [Turbo] Downpipe or smash the cats guts out

Post by Freebird »

As the title says any thoughts either way, I'm sure the downpipe will be slightly better and smashing the cats guts out will be cheaper (actually someones already done this to my car) but I was wandering if anyone had strong views either way or has tried both and has any thoughts.

I know an aftermarket DP with a massive flexi is just over half the weight than the stock cat before you gut it.

Its up to you TBH. Cheaper to gut it as you wont spend a pennie when you do it your self.

It's a MASSIVE change in weight, not only half.

Cheers thanks,

So no performance gains apart from lighter pockets and a lighter exhaust

you'd probably gain 5hp with a dp, over a gutted cat.

not worth it imo.
for a decent one, 150-200 + fitting = ~5hp and a weight saving that more than likely you wont notice..
