Hi folks new member back again and MK3 advice required?

Post by stan »

Hi folks just wanted to say hello and gain some useful advice.

I used to be on this forum ages ago when I got my MK3 in 2001 it was a Black hardtop, red leather - loved that car but had to sell after 3 years, then got a 2003 Blue Hardtop , black leather a few years later on (well it was my other halfs really).
A few cars later I am looking to get one again - they used to cost me peanuts to run (other than constant nails in the rear tyres!!) and I want a fun car again so I am in the market for one. :D

I've had a look around and I cant see a buyers guide for the MK3 (sorry if I am looking in the wrong area). Since I have only had mine for 3 years or so at a time I dont know whats been found out about them 10 years later on?

Ideally I am looking for the early shape in black with leather seats - stock no mods with FSH. Other than the rear lights on the revised shape I prefer the earlier one especially the Sony Radio that later Fischer Price unit was pants !!

Please point me in the right direction - other than a ragged car and expensive sounding noises (corroding alloys) whats this about pre cats??

Many thanks in advance :thumleft:

I'm sure that others will provide more info and the U.S. forum (Darn link is on the other computer) will have a WHOLE lot more info.

Anyhow, it was strongly suggested that I gut or replace the pre-cats with a different manifold and I went for the manifold option. The local garage fitted in less than a day, didn't cost much and the car has been a little more 'brooommm' since then. Not much, but a tiny bit better.
