Advantages/disadvantages of re-circ on rev3 turbo

Post by sms14 »

As title really guys, im running an st205 chargecooler setup and currently have a ssvq2 but im growing out of the noisey dump valve and attracting unwated attention from it really.

So im thinking of using the standard re-circ valve with it but wanted to know if there's any advantages or disadvantages performance wise before doing so.

Thanks for any advice in advance :thumleft:

No disadvantages, no real advantages apart from reducing the noise.

The stock BOV is very good.

^^agreed, i got tired of the noise with the ssqv bov so i put the stock one back on.... the goose honk is even more annoying! so the ssqv went back on.

the Toyota bov is good mate . the more boost you run the harder it closes.
don't know why someone doesn't make them like that.
i don't get the honk/duck noise
2 mins to try it

Pretty sure the hks ssqv is the same design as the stock one, pull type, so the more boost on it, the tighter it closes, in fact, I had a good inspection of the both and they both seem to operate the same way??? Just buy a recirc adapter for the hks, i'm sure this would eliminate the noise, you ever heard how loud the stock one is with the recirc pipe pulled off? It's one of the loudest i've heard:)

Incorrect. They do not operate the same way.

The stock bov will reduce spool up time. It is different to ALL the aftermarket bovs in the fact that it remains to recirc turbo pressure after the throttle has been reapplied, and only closes when you get positive manifold pressure. Where as an hks, you can release pressure and get back on the throttle, it will be closed straight away. hth

grant, the noise i get is like a low groan, it only happens when im accelerating on gentle throttle, not using boost

from my experience, my car feels faster with the stock bov, its down to what luke said.

also i believe hks have one for high boost, their std range will leak if you run high boost, i guess that will also apply to std one

The differences are so minimal, I wouldn't even waste your time changing it.

If your growing out of the VTA BOV sound, use a recirc kit for your SSQV

6 of 1 half a dozen of the other springs to mind.

waste time changing it, or waste time and money buying a recirc kit and fitting it...

I've got 2 blitz dump valves on my car! This makes no difference performance wise but i have to admit i do like the sound. And you generally get a few shocked expressions when people see that its an MR2 making the noise.

I've wanted a turbo since i was young though, so i guess that kinda explains it... as chavvy as it is!
