split rim refurb in or near london

Post by Race Idiot »

I'm looking to get my ssr's restored but the place who did my buddyclubs dont do split rims and wim quoted me about £100 per wheel.

The wheels in question have a painted center and polished rim, are they normally that expensive to refurb?

The company who did my old wheels also reccomended this company www.lepsons.com

Has anyone here used them?

Is there any kerb damage as the link posted doesn't touch them.

I'm looking around at the moment for my 1 pieces, but the quotes I've been getting back have been in the region of £250-£300 which is a bit more than I can justify.

Are the LMs 3 piece? The website says they will do 2 piece but not 3 piece.

They are 2 piece, this is the e-mail chain from two weeks ago

Me wrote:Hi,

I have a set of four BBS LM wheels in need of refurbishment. they are 17x8 and 17x9. All have minor kerb rash and the centres will require repainting with BBS original gold paint which I can supply.

Could you please provide a price for this job?

thanks

sam

Hi, they are two piece, i.e. the centre and the wheel body. Attached a picture of one of them for reference

Thanks

Lepsons wrote:We stopped refurbing this type of wheel due to the problems we have when we put them back together again, the paint and lacquer crack when we tighten the bolts. Also the rims can sometimes be too thin to polish again.

Sorry

Kind regards

Ok I got a call from lepsons and they said they wouldnt do 3 piece wheels, but they would do 2 piece ones for £95.

I called spit and polish who said the same but they would do them for £82 per wheel. Are they any good?

The wheels have a bit of a bend in the outer rim, a bit of curb damage and the centers need re-painting. They are ssr professor SP1's, which i have been told are 2 piece.

http://www.essexalloywheelrefurbishment.co.uk/ did my other wheels for about £170 which was resonable for a single piece wheel. I can understand that the splits will cost more.

I'm currently having a set of 3 piece split rims refurbished, including removal of damage to the rims and the centres being resprayed a different colour.

I should have them back in a week or so so I'd be willing to give the company a thumbs up then but not yet as I don't know the quality of the work.

Btw costing £220 for all the work. I know this sounds cheap (and it is lol) but I don't think they realised the extent of the work before they quoted me.......... ;)

Will do, I damned near weeing myself waiting for them to be finished lol

They're Lenso 8/9x17's, no idea of a model name though.

And a vague idea of what they'll look like on the car, although they'll have black centres, not gold.

funny that

i recently got in touch with lepsons..

they DO deal with split rims!

however, they do not deal with the bolt and nut type they told me......
which basically means if theres a nut on the other side of your rims to bolt the pieces together, they wont touch them.
if they just use studs/bolts that go straight into the alooy, they refurb tons of these types of split rims....

end of the day, wouldnt touch my rims either.....as mine is bolt/nut type.

:(

shame as they only a few miles from me.

have you seen the pics on there site, CLEARLY show tons of kerbed alloys.

i took my old volk alloys there years ago, and they took care of the kerb marks.

Alloy Magic in Poole Dorset did a stunning job on my very ratty Toms C&R's. £100 per wheel but well worth it.

Yeah I can tell you lol, I just can't reccomend them one way or the other :oldtongue:

It's a place called L.A. Paint, they're situated in Rayleigh, just past Basildon.

I purchased them second hand from on here so I've no idea I'm afraid. I coudn't get much in the way of information from googling either.

Edit: They're actually Algernon Intelesse wheels, no idea where I pulled Lenso from #-o

Guys Team Dynamics refurbish alloy wheels now at their factory.

I'm going to take my buddy clubs to them as they are about 3 mile from where i live. From what i have seen they do an awesome job. they are pretty fair price wise as well. £50 for a 16/17"
