Spotted - my car, on fire on the A19

Post by stevecordiner »

Basically as the title says.

Driving home on saturday, the capillary line for my oil pressure gauge ruptures. Spraying hot oil onto my exhaust manifold. Car caught fire. By the time the fire brigade got to it it had burnt its way through the cabin.

Its a painful experience to see 2 years research and 100's of hours of work go up in smoke infront of you. I'd of given my left nut for a fire exitinguisher.

Guess thats the end of that then

Really sorry to hear this has happened Steve, must be galling to see your pride and joy go up in smoke. How much engine damage is there? Is the block, turbo, etc salvageable?

If you could get a shell could you do a transplant? Not ideal but a possibility?

I know Rowly French had his Mr2 set alight by some f*ckwit and he was so distraught when I spoke to him shortly after it happened. I think I would personally cry, or just sit in the car and let it take me with it!

Cheers

My intake manifold blew up yesterday and I feel distraught to say the least, but it must be nothing to how you feel right now. Gutted to hear it

Turbo, engine might be salvagable. Wont know till I rip it all apart. Wouldn't imagine a fire hose does too much good for an engine.

Problem is ££££. I bit the bullet in building it, realistically I dont think I can afford to build it again. Shelling out for another EMS, another fuel system, another boost controller as well as the cost of doing a swap into another car, oh and the wideband kit and a nitrous kit etc etc

Saturday and sunday didnt really set in what had happened. Today I just feel miserable as hell.

Its a horrible feeling after all that work. At the time I just laughed when it was on fire. What else can you do.

I'm I the only one (Steve aside) that this story has almost made shed a tear!? I can't imagine just how bad you must be feeling fella as I truelly would be lost without my 2 as sad as that sounds! Like Brook has said, just about the only good way of looking at this is that you were able to get free of the car :? That won't help make you feel any better right now I know but it's true all the same!

Take care,

Mikejc
