Any native Japanese speakers here?

Post by Marf »

Longshot I know, but I'm after some help translating some advert text before I buy something from Yahoo Japan Auctions. :)

If you're using IE8 you should be able to just click anywhere on the page and then, about 1/3rd of the way down the menu, there should be an option for "Translate with live-search".

This'll open up a new window showing the Jap text on one side and translation on the other side.
Note that the new window might not "work" properly. Once you've read the translated page go back to the original page to bid or whatever.

Course, if the text is part of a picture you're stuffed. :(

Yeah, the automatic translations are, to put it bluntly, crap and don't answer my questions, hence me looking for a native speaker :)

Thanks anyway Si :thumleft:

Fair enough.

If you haven't yet tried it the live-search one might surprise you.
I know they used to kinda suck but I was quite surprised at how good it was when I needed to translate a chinese website about electronic stuff recently.

I DO know a couple of guys in Japan so if you want to PM me the link I can ask them if they can help.
Might take a few days to get a response though.

Just tried it but I dont have the option you mentioned for some reason.

I'll PM you the link, if you get anything back that'd be great :)

Or use Chrome.

When entering "foreign" sites, it will ask you to translate the site.

I was quite astonished how every Jap figure got translated into text.

If you can wait until Friday, the missus is back from being away with work. PM me the link and I'll ask her. I've got a few other Japanese friends that I could get in touch with also if you needed it sooner.

HTH.

Cheers,
Tom
