black box next to diagnostics box

Post by pistol pete »

On my turbo rev1 there is a little black box where what looks like a vac hose should go in underneath..

next to it is what i would believe to be the hose but its been blocked by a bolt in the end and a t off for my boost gauge..
is this right what was it meant to do??

the boost on mine is runnin at 14.5 psi (set up to run at this)

cheers

Im not sure what it actually is but it is to do with the standard boost system. If you have an aftermarket boost controller then I dont think you need it.

Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong though :)

Well on the earlier tubbys I belive the map sensor was used a) to feed the gauge a signal and b) to operate the fuel cut.

On later tubbies the map sensor was used for all fuelling.

So on a rev1/2, it doesnt matter if its not connected, it fuels based on the air flow meter readings.

On an NA you still need a "pressure" sensor as they measure the vacuum the engine is under to work out the fuelling.

Which is a really good reason not to disconnect it IMHO ;)

Marf's right pretty much. It's the MAP sensor, but the earlier engines don't use it for management.

i spliced into the hose that comes from underneath this black box with a T-piece for my EBC pressure. Will this be ok?

Are you on about the diagnostics box with the air flow feed pipe?

Car runs crap with that off, it's just a vac pipe. Leave it :D
