gearbox oil! aqua green! could only get 3-3.5ltrs back in with mt90

Post by jimGTS »

done a gearbox oil change, wernt to difficult, just time consuming getting the car as level as i could.

old stuff was aqua green in colour, suprised me, no idea what was in there before.
anyway drained what i could on a cold gearbox, let it drip out for like 1.5-2hours, but could only get 3-3.5ltrs back in.

sound about right?

was a bit freaked out as BGB says 4.4ltrs, but i was looking at the USDM bgb it seems! which i guess doesnt have LSD?
and just searched on here and found different readings of 3.8 to 4.2...

i was expecting to fit all 4 quarts of mt90 i had, and ended up spilling about 1/2-3/4 of a bottle due to over flow! oooops!
hense my guess of what i actually managed to get in the box.

im going to check level again the weekend and actually try and drive the car to test if its made a difference, just wondered how much others have managed to get in the gearboxs?
gen3 turbo btw

3-3.5ltr sounds about right Jim. :thumleft:

Next time you do it fill it through the breather in the top, it takes 5mins to fill the box and doesnt make a mess. 8)

Can be filled without having the car in the air too.

Just fill it as you would normally till it comes out the filler hole, just loads quicker and no spillage. :thumleft:

slightly off topic but still related.

How do you know you've got an LSD (standard Toyota one)?
My Rev3 only took approx 3.5 litres like Jims.....is there a transmission code hat will tell me?

On the vin plate in the frunk, there will be a transmission line that says E153-xxx

if the middle x is a 3 or a 5 then you have a factory fitted LSD

Apologies for sounding patronising but are you looking in the right place? It's on the bulkhead between the frunk and the FRONT bumper, so you can't see it when you look into the frunk, you have to kinda bend around :D
