PP cars all rubbish?????

Post by Andy F »

Has a PP car ever come to the UK and made good power?

It seems everyone ive heard of, has had to have lots of work done
to get them going well

Im not having a go, just curious :-k

Yep, something we have spoke about alot. It does seem like they are all hype. Everyone I can think of has done naff all power wise till sorted over here. I'm sure Martin's old car that is up for sale now has never done any descent power, even when it had money spent on it over here. :-k

Pretty sure lockys car (White one which seems to be the main pp demo car) came over here, got remapped on uk fuel and made 570hp!!
He since put on a better spooling turbo and made the same hp with better mid range.

Tho I believe now he's put on a slightly smaller turbo for track and is making 490hp.
That was over its 1st year or so over here I think.

Last 6-12months I think it's had a rebuild of some kind, maybe to make it better for track??

The black one with no bodykit I think made 600hp and redlined to like 9-10k rpm!
Tho I do believe that had problems straight away and has been broken.

The black bodykitted one I simply have not heard alot about (the one recently for sale). Shame as would have been good to see it at some shows.

I don't 'think' there any other pp cars that have come over here???

You've got to think tho, very few jap garage tuned mr2s come over here!!!
How many garages do you know other than Phoenix power have cars over here??
I know there was one from MINES, which I also hear very little about and is also now probably parted. Tho am not sure.

Maybe previous owners or the pp garage sell it on as they started to have issues after a couple of years? Or simply don't cater for the mr2 anymore and sell them on?

Also maybe werth pointing out are you talking about there demo cars or simply just cars that look like they've had work done at pp and are customer cars?? Tho I guess it doesn't matter.

Only demo I know of is lockys.
The others I can't be sure are demo cars. Maybe just customer.

Either way they sell good upgrades ;-)

I'd love to see the red one that featured in max power with the front mount intercoolers & pipes running through the cabin.

There was white, red, black & caribbean blue PP cars with the full kit etc
& the black non kitted one that was recently broken think it ran in the HKS drag series.

I've also seen a yellow pp demo car in japan. Had the other style bodykit on that pp do.

All the cars you mention tho make sense. Especially the black hks drag one for not having a kit (to save weight I guess)

Yep simon took the white one off the road for track upgrades. He is using solaris EMS with the computerised 'Stack style' dash and a Borg Warner turbo with iirc, Twin WG setup.

I think the problem with PP cars is there technology is fairly old. T88's for instance.

I remember the red one in Max Power. :D What we are saying, is it seems non have been brought over the water to the UK, and done any good power.

Chances are if the red PP car was shipped over, the 700 odd BHP is was saying it had, would probably be 300odd in reality.

Everyone has to be totally re-done to be any good it appears anyway.

Good point on the old tech stuff

Just hear lots of stories of the PP cars doing good times
in Japan and how good the parts are, but never manage it over hear
but as Jim says its probley true of most "big power" cars imported here.

GTS Chris brought one from US and didnt live up to expectations

The guy in scotland didnt do bad but i dont think it broke any records

What did Lockys do at TOTB...12s?? not sure?

So PP dont have a set format? could have been any spec?

So is PP a bit like the genuine TRD cars, where the customer chose from an options list? Hence some cars are kitted some are not some use IHI turbos others HKS etc.

IIRC the black non kitted now broken car was expected to make 8-900bhp on a GT42

Here is my theory, maybe the best PP cars are still in Japan, the cars that had "issues" are the ones that were exported?

On paper or was it dyno'd when it got here? The red MR2 GTS Chris shipped over was apparently the fastest in the world. Think that managed 12s at TOTB.
