[Mk2] [Generic] E-Bay droplinks @ £35 all round... Worth buying?

Post by CardHore »

Hi guys...

Just callin in on behalf of my mum who owns a G-Limited... Her MR2 needs new droplinks pretty much all round im sure as theres knocks all round the car over bumps etc.

Ive seen a set on E-Bay for £35 brand new! Are these worth buying or will they cause more problems? Ive read before of these gold stainless ones you can buy. Is there much difference in terms of durability.

If no one really agrees with the cheap ones then perhaps someone can point me in the right direction for some good qualtiy medium priced ones?

She's not a hardcore corner grabber but she does drive spiritedly more often.

Your views are appreciated :thumleft:

droplinks

Post by cosmos »

Have a look at www.mr2-ben his fronts have a rod diameter of 14mm (same as Toyota) and the rears are 8mm. £50 any pair or £100 for all four.
Check the knowledge base somewhere there is reference to Mini and Mitzibushi Charisma unless its mr2oc.

The ebay ones are cool, they wont last as long as the MrT, jobbies but they will last 2/3 years.
It takes no time to change them either as they do not have time to corrode on like the good ones do :thumleft:

I got some cheap droplinks off ebay a while ago. They were on the car for around 6 months and one of them is now ruined. Boot split, loads of play.

I also got some other cheap droplinks from Camskill, they were alot better and have lasted 1 year on the rear so far.

As I intend on keeping my car for a long while I think OEM Toyota parts will be the order of the day from now on.

I bought front and back drop links off eBay. I guess they weren't super-cheap as they cost £25 a pair.
They've had a year of use and they still look mint.

Mine are thinner than the original ones too but I vaguely recall reading a bunch of stuff about why this shouldn't be a problem.
In use, none look bent yet.

The way I see it, they're better than the knackered ones that were on it so they've gotta be worth a look.

just wona bump on this.

my droplinks seem a little loose, rotate quite a bit...

there due a replacement, however when looking at them, i didnt see any sort of allen key hole.......
just a bolt/nut one end and that was it??

this normal, oem?? or is it likely i have some generic one on there? doesnt look fancy, looks pretty oem.

i also noticed my arb bushs seemed pretty split and cracked....
ARB upgrade time is it?

Jim, i had to replace a strut recently and found the same - no allen key hole, just the stud and nut (the rears however, do have them).

On mine, at the base of the stud, there is an oblong piece of metal, the flats of which you can grip with an open ended spanner - in my case i think it was 13mm with the nut being 14 mm.

Dont know if this will help, but thought i'd mention it in case you have the same problem. Im assuming that the droplinks i have on the front are aftermarket ones, or from the days were droplinks seemed to be only avaliable from Mr T and there from another car.
