walbro fuel pump install?? 255, 305, 355ltr???

i couldnt find it in the search, but i believe i heard that you can fit the pump without removing the tank, if you cut some of the arm rest tunnel away??

am i going mad, or is this true?

if it is, anyone done it? info?


also, any info on the new walbros??
am looking for plug and play! NO modding, no cutting of the tank, no custom lines!

am only looking at 500hp max and 2bar of boost at the EXTREME of my setup..

the normal 255 enough?

I can't see why it wouldn't be possible but it's a nuts idea because dropping the fuel tank isn't hard...

You'd have to take a sizeable holesaw to the centre tunnel bit more or less where the seat backs meet. It'd all be a bit trial and error though and you might end up with lots of holes in your car. The plate that screws into the top of the fuel tank then has 2 hard pipes which go backwards towards the engine bay, you'd need to figure out how you were going to get those out - I imagine your cut would end up needing to be elongated to accommodate those pipes. Then the wiring for the pump goes forward, so you would need to thread this back down the tunnel once your new pump is installed. On top of that you've only got to slip once with the holesaw and you're talking new fuel tank, new fuel pump assembley (hard pipes etc)...

Just drop the tank, it's not hard! You don't have to split any of the coolant or aircon hoses to do it and emptying the fuel system if your tank doesn't have a drain plug is as simple as disconnecting the fuel line at the filter and bridging 2 pins in the diagnostics port.

its not on the cards yet, but its looking likely to try and illiminate a busted pump...

The 255 can handle your power requirements, be near its limit supposedly

thing is with race gas, 2bar+ and probably a boot mount, only then would i be near 500+...
i wont be near that on any long term goal tbh, only aiming for 400+..

All you need is a jack and a couple of axel stands Jim, doesn't have to be that high up to get it out,

No Gav, it is not a direct replacement. I have the largest one they do, you have to modify pretty much everything.

I maxed out a 255 walbro Jim at 635bhp. Depending on your mapper. a 255 is fine and direct replacement.

Yep, it can be done this way no problems. Need to get the car pretty high off the ground, but anything is better than trying to undo them B@stard fuel lines behind the heat sheilds on the bulkhead. Nightmare of a job!!

i run a 255 jim seen over 400hp no worries make shore you cable tie the pump in, ben longhurst changed his years ago i gave him a hand he said leave the pump as is (no cable ties)( which are supplied)first time tried to start the car it threw the pump done the tank had to take the tank back out

damn not what i wanted to here, what would hav to be done to be able to fit the walbro 305ltr pump i hav already bought dude?
as im aiming for similer bhp of 450bhp+ so didnt think the 255ltr would be sufficient enough???

if the 305ltr is no good to me then it will be up for sale brand new warrenty and tested if anyones interested maybe an exchange for the 255

You have to cut out the tank, drill out the sender cap, fit a bulkhed fitting, run all new fuel lines feed and return. Plus obviously lots of little silly fittings.

It's alot of messing about, but depends how far you are going. I only changed ny 255 as I had totally ran out of fuel and it was a must. Otherwise, I prob would not of bothered.

When you say pretty high off the ground, would axle stands be no good ? a Ramp needed ?
