If you'de have had any skill at all and a tubby that weighed less than 2ton (with driver inside) you could have had the real benefit of one too!
Re: rev3 GTS v Carrera 4S
FWIW, I've experienced both sides of this.
I have a 911 turbo and a guy in an Elise decided to have a bit of a play.
I don't mean to sound like a smartass or endorse dangerous driving (cos it was a deserted stretch of private road etc) but the Porka really only begins to stretch its legs above 100mph.
Up to 100mph the Elise could stay with me. Course, at that point I change up into 4th and carry on accelerating while he's desperately trying to red-line his car in top gear.
Then I change up into 5th at about 145mph and carry on again.
Thing is, the 911 isn't geared as a "sprint car". It's geared to cruise at around 150mph with about 3k on the clock.
As a result, the performance up to 100mph isn't much better than a car like an Elise (or an MR2 turbo).
When I'm sitting at 140mph in 5th gear and I change down into 4th and accelerate at roughly the same rate that an MR2 does at 70mph, THAT is when you realise where the money goes.
Genuinely, don't mean to brag.
Just trying to put the other side across.
My own porka is a 1982 930 Turbo. It's been modded and has 405bhp though so it's no slouch.

Re: rev3 GTS v Carrera 4S
That's all well and good, but we are talking about the Carerra4S, which is a considerably slower animal than your Turbo, which sounds lovely by the way, give us some pics.
Re: rev3 GTS v Carrera 4S
How often are you "sat around at 14Omph? what a crock!!
That sounds like an excuse to me, because your car aint upto it until
100mph +
So is the 911 a sports car or a GT car..(grand tourer) cos it aint no
super car if a elise stayed with you to 100

You do post some cr@p...most of the time!
So what diving experience of the 4s have you had to be able to judge its "composure" ?
Or is it just more 2nd hand dribble from what you've read on the tinternet?
TOTB 2010 Rwd top speed, 1/4 and shootout winner.
10.7@142 on R888 street tyres, 10.3@134mph on slicks,
9's on slicks to come, with a clean full throttle pass! Goal of 0-150mph in a 1/4 of a mile....

You're absolutely right. That was my point.
It's fun to be able to drop down into 4th at 140mph and stick your foot down but I've had maybe 2 opportunities to do it in over 10 years of owning the car.
Beyond that, it's pointless.
It's a bit silly to say the Elise is the "equal" of a 911 because it can stay with it up to 100mph cos the Porka can do so much more but you're rarely gonna be able to capitalise on that extra performance on a road.
Re: rev3 GTS v Carrera 4S
When i upgrade from my two i'll be looking for a car that is better than the 2 in every area i consider important.
911 carrera is one of only 3 cars i can think of within my price range. you can pick up a nice 4s for £18k if you get a good deal.

Re: rev3 GTS v Carrera 4S
£18k? Hmmm, for that, I'd get a minter NSX outside the house. regarded by many racing drivers as 'still' one of the best drivers cars in the world. Yum.
Re: rev3 GTS v Carrera 4S
£18K isn't going to buy you either a nice 4S or a mint NSX. You get a horrendously sheddy 996 for that (if at all), and it'll be an older leggy NSX for under £20K.

Shade over budget but pretty good for the money. Low miles for age and the 3.2

Silver with red interior though. And where are the RE010s? T1Rs are not going to cut it.

Re: rev3 GTS v Carrera 4S
That's something I've never understood. People spend a fortune on bits that make their car look pretty or that give it more power, but scrimp on the bits of rubber that actually connect you to the ground and make more difference to the drive than anything! T1-Rs are budget performance tyres, acceptable but nothing more.

Re: rev3 GTS v Carrera 4S
Well quite, the OEM tyre is RE010s (same compound as DC2) and having the right tyres makes such a huge difference.
They are difficult to get hold of though, but worth persevering to find a set.

I know what you mean about the red interior but I'm sure once the windows are down and you find that special B road, you wont car what colour the interior is.

Nowt wrong with that combo IMO.
T1Rs are ok, by no means the best available but they are OK. Did a track day at bedford in a friends RX7 running T1R's, they weren't as squidgy on the limit as some people make out.
Either way for me it wouldn't be bridgestones or toyos, it'd be Yoko Advan AD08
