Turbo mpg on track?

Post by Adam86 »

In a recent track day my rev 3 n/a a burnt off £80 in 190 miles around mallory park. Now my engine is on 150K and l do 30K a year so when it does need replacing l thinking a turbo as you do lol. Now l know that on the road if you keep away from the boost they arnt really any worse than the n/a's. But what about on track how many miles does a tank tend to last? 80sih miles?

dont know how many miles i did but probably 50 laps max around anglesey
arrived with full tank, filled up at lunch time, filled up again on way home
rough estimate - about a tank and a half with 100 or so miles track driving
not sure how to work out mpg from that info

[Clarkson]Some say, if your mpg isn't in single figures, then you're not really trying[/Clarkson] :clown:

I did about 10 mpg around Angelsey, but about 35mpg on the way home which makes up for it. Thants about normal for a turbo car with about 250bhp as my S3 did about 9 mpg around castle combe.

Now that l think about it even if the £80 l put in mine was £1 per litre that would give me 10.8 mpg to the 190 miles. To be fair though at mallory you are at WOT for alot of the track.

I was using 1/4 of a tank every 20 minute session around donnington
not very scientific but it was expensive!

I see around 7-8mpg at donington.

FWIW I used 74 litres in one track evening. That was just over 300kms which included the steady motorway cruise up and back. Combined for the distance was 12.97mpg, and I can see close to 30mpg on a motorway run.

Similar story, 14mpg doing a round trip to silverstone and a few hours on track.

Easy single digits on my old turbo - 5-8mpg depending on the track and layout. Roadster seems a little less thirsty but still around 10-12mpg ISTR

I'd arrive with a full tank in the morning and need a refill at lunchtime after ~3 track sessions.

I do used to do 5-8 mpg, I can remember having to fill up every 4 laps of the ring before I had it remapped.

Day to Day 30mpg is doable.
