Hello,
I'm new to this.
Can you tell me what "AFAIK & OEM" means. I know this may seen thick of me but, if you don't know then you don't know and it's spoiling my enjoyment of your comments.
Also, I have lift in my o/s drive shaft flange at the gear box end. The lift is on the flange not the c/v joint. Is there a fix for this i.e replace the bearing ( on my back on the drive) or is it a new gear box job.
Thanks, Boddney

Sadly not - perhaps you can help me by describing what you mean by 'lift on the drive shaft' i've not heard of this before and dont know the symptoms.....

By lift i mean the flange is wobbley, the n/s one is tight, feels solid but the o/s one you can shake and lift. Thats the best I can do i'm afraid.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: What do they mean and drive shaft lift.
It's a pretty common problem, most of my MR2 gearboxes have been like that and they've never developed into anything worse so it's probably not worth worrying about. I'm pretty local to you (I'm in Wymondham) and have plenty of experience getting my hands dirty on these cars if you need me to have a quick look and put your mind at rest.

Thats a really kind offer, unfortunatley i can't bring it to you as it has no MOT or tax until the spring, fingers crossed and I have nearly finished restoring it after several years of trying.
You are welcome to come to me to look if you are over this way.
Are you Phil & Vix, if so we did meet once, I think it was at Seething air show when a few Mk1's arrived and I all of a sudden lost intrest in the planes. He He.

If the driveshaft can be moved up and down at the gearbox end could be wear in the diff carrier. Mine was leaking oil and was noticed following an MOT.
Got a second hand diff carrier put in for £300. Probably cheaper to get another gearbox if that's the problem.

Thanks Lauren,
I have no oil leaks yet so I think I may let it develope like Kaiowas suggested or until I can get it over to him to check for me.

Re: What do they mean and drive shaft lift.
there is a bolt on the bearing bracket. at the end of the bolt from standard it has a piece of rubber/plastic to cushion it. could be yours is worn causing this problem. very common to wear down.
Re: What do they mean and drive shaft lift.
Hi Dan,
Can you be more specific. I can't see a bracket or a bolt on or near the drive shaft.
Thanks

4th page down. 3rd pic. the end of that bolt (with the arrow)is plastic/rubber capped. check if movement is from that area. if so whip the bolt out put a bit of rubber in there then the bolt back in.
hopefully that resolves your problem... best to eliminate the easy things first!

Contrary to popular belief not every thread on IMOC is about the mk2
The mk1 setup doesn't have a centre shaft and bearing.
