Yep you would get a nice rev2 tubby for that. (t-bar if you want)
If you dont mind a bit of diy you can pick up some bargains. I got my rev1 tubby for £450. Just needed the turbo swapping over. Job done

Just be careful. Yes in this climate there are a lot of bargains out there with prices low for ligitimate reasons. But there are also a hell of a lot of dogs and abused examples out there.

Re: Turbo for less than £2000 ??
I was sick of the escort turbo -it ran fine, needed a new starter motor (as they all do!) and could have done with the back arch resprayed again. Roof didnt fit that well though so could of had that sorted for the price of a second hand roof.
But i was after something with a bit more kick, a bit more fun and something i could take on the track.
I did a 3 hr journey to do the swap so didnt really check the car out as it was dark when we got there. MR2 drove back fine and was really pleased with it - still am.
Ive had to get a few things done, namely clutch £130 parts and £130 labour (coz i turned up the boost and couldnt handle it!), just had windscreen done on insurance and shouldnt cost me a thing (hopefully!), some newish alloys with new tyres for £150, rev 3 lights (£120) and now just needs a good mop to get rid of the pinkish. Also had to replace the temp sender (about £5 from euro car parts) as temp gauge in car wasnt working.
I valued my rs turbo around £1k (Prob more like £800) and i gave him £500 as well though the other owner gave me £20 back for petrol to get home.
I havent regretted doing the swap at all.
