[Mk2] [Generic] Cambelt Timing Marks - a sticky???

Post by BrianUK »

Changing the cambelt would be a lot easier if the replacement units had marks on to line up with the marks on the crank and cambelt pulleys.

If you are replacing an existing belt you can put the marks on to the belt (using tipex etc) and transfer them to the new one... I forgot!!

It would be REALLY usefull if someone in the club who did mark up the old belt could count the teeth and let me know!

something like:

Mark one tooth (for the crankshaft)
Count clockwise x number of teeth, mark the tooth (inlet Cam)
Count clockwise x number of teeth, mark the tooth (exhaust cam)

It would make a good sticky... and let you get the timing right 1st time :)

One for the Rev1/2 and one for the rev 3:

Isn't this what TDC marks are for?

TDC the crank and cams and ensure that they are all still TDC when all back together. :-k

Very true - but if you have a marked up cam belt you can line up the marks on the belt with the marks on the engine - with a greater chance of getting it right when the tension is applied :)
