[Mk2] [Turbo] finally on the way to my power targets...

Post by Wingers »

So I've been busy with pretty much everything under sun recently but have finally got round to doing some mapping on my currently running car so thought I'd post the results.

Image

Not bad for an hours work :)
That was the first time I'd run the boost solenoid and there's still plenty more to come but I figured that wasn't a bad first step from my previous 270hp.

It's now officially the fastest car I've ever driven \:D/

tbh I haven't got many. Might have to get a few new shots soon.

This is it on stilts (stock rev1 suspension) last year.

I'll keep an eye out for you down here - I work in Shoreham so am often over your way.
Are you going to Goodwood on Sunday?

GT3076 at 1.5bar.
If anything I should be getting 10-20 more bhp than I did at that pressure but I didn't want to go too crazy on the first go. Give it a couple of weeks and I'll try to get back there to get that 400club ticket ;)
As it was there was one run that was looking good for 400+ but it hit boost cut so didn't deliver in the end. After this long preparing for it I'm sure another few weeks won't hurt tho. I'd rather keep it under control than go for the big numbers just for the sake of it.

yep - from first principles...

It's been a good project so far though and a good excuse to try my hand at things I've never done before :)

Nice to see it come together, I bet it sounds a lot better than it did that way we did arch rolling :thumleft:

I took the screamer pipe off so it's a lot less agressive now. I think there are a couple of holes in the exhaust welds though so it's still not quite right :(

I might get everything sorted one day. But I doubt it...

Looks great !!

One thing I've found with these cars, there's always something to do on them !!

Picks up some 150bhp between 4200 and 5200 rpm !! How does that feel ??! :)

Fairly amusing. The tyres might disagree though ;)
I’ve been playing with the boost map since then as well so I think it might be even steeper now…

I need to check my base timing and get my EGT wiring plumbed in then I can get it back to the dyno though and find a bit more power…

well - another dyno session completed and some more graphs to look at :)

I'm really pleased with how it went. I made over 450hp at 1.5bar and then ended up with this as the boost crept a bit later on:

I think that's finally putting me in the right ball park for power / boost on that turbo...

On the road it's even faster. I can hit the 1.7boost cut at 4000 in 5th. Even with my softened boost control curve...

Obviously it is a big turbo for a little 2L engine but given that, I'm pretty happy with the spool. It's more than possible to keep it on boost if you want to. Hey VTEC engines suffer more than this as they only turn on at 6500!

Other curves can be found here:

I think this is about it:

Link G3 LEM ECU
CP Forged Pistons
Rods
ARP Flywheel bolts
ARP Head bolts
GT3076R 0.8A/R
44mm External Wastegate
Radtec Chargecooler
Wolfkatz Top-feed Fuel Rail
1000cc injectors
Braided fuel lines & JIC fittings
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Fuel surge tank
Twin 255 L/hr external Walbro fuel pump
0.8mm Cometic Head gasket
Mick Gain Head porting
ATS Cam Gears
HKS Cam belt
HKS 264 Cams
Piper valve springs
1ZZ Shimless bucket conversion
Air Induction kit
Exhaust manifold porting
Departure 2 Twin-exit Exhaust
TVIS removed and plate ported
Fidanza Lightweight Flywheel
Twin 12" SPAL fans
Oil Cooler
HKS SSQV BOV - racing version
Knockbox Det cans
LC-1 Wideband Lambda Sensor
Homemade EGT sensors

I'm very impressed with the turbo for spool vs. power and the Radtec was expensive but unbelievable. The whole time I've been mapping it I don't think the intake temps have gone above 40decC on WOT

I've also got a water injection kit sat here waiting to go on once I've maxed out the turbo without WI.
