Spec me a rebuild for 360bhp...

Post by J-1 »

As the title says really.

My ultimate goal is to rebuild my Sonic Shadow to a safe and reliable, 300 - 320 bhp @ the wheels. It will be used 80% on the road and the rest on track.

Here is the spec of the car as it is:

Berk side mount intercooler inc spal fan, shroud & hardpipe kit
Berk de-cat/downpipe
Blitz Nur Spec
NGK 8 spark plugs
Apexi Super Intake air filter
HKS EVC 5 Electronic Boost Controller
Shortshifter and new gear shift selector bearings

So i am looking for the big power Guru's to spec me a rebuild with the above in mind.

Cheers in advance! :thumleft:

Many different opinions on this.. but heres mine.. taking into consideration you want track use out of it...

Berk side mount intercooler inc spal fan, shroud & hardpipe kit

Put this in the bin, its no good for endurance / track work... ok for real world blasting about. Chargecooler only. £500 circa for ST205 setup

Forged pistons - dont really need forged rods, but will help lightening the rolling mass on the crank. £500

Twin plate clutch £1K

Ct20b turbo - Flog it, by a GT30R turbo > 3071 / 3076 - £1500

Upgrade fuel rail - 1000cc's, big feed pump - £5-600
Programmable ECU - £1K including tuning
19 row external oil cooler - £150
Engine Gasket kit - £150
Misc & Oils - ££

So whats that : £5500 circa before labour of pulling it out / stripping / rebuilding...

Price not scare you off first ??!!

its alot cheaper if you can do all the work yourself, but there lots of things you need to add extra for for instance, I also done the following

this is what I just done.

ACL Thrust washer
ACL main bearings
ACL Big end bearings
Eagle Conrods
CP Pistons
Apexi HG Gasket
Eagle Valve springs
All the machine work was done by someone else

all Genunine toyota parts,

Oil pump
waterpump
thermostat
cambelt
alternator belt
air con belt
idler pully
tensioner
complete engine gasket kit
drive shaft seals
4 oil filters
dizzy cap
rotor arm
spark plugs
HT leads

and then when you start to strip the car, you might notice a split in the ball joint etc, then you got oils...a bolt or socket you might need etc. its not as simple as putting a wishlist of parts together,

Thats assuming everything is new.... can probably save £1k through a used turbo / clutch / ecu setup.... and save a boat load in a crash damaged one...

You could probably get a turbo technics CT26 to do the job, but it'll be on its limitations and probably short lived.....

Has your engine gone pop mate?? I'm running 300@ the wheels on a standard bottom end and I've done 7 track days in the last yr & she is still running sweet as.
Injectors, td06, charge cooler & a nice map mate got me2 that level just my 2p.

Turbo wise GT28 will make the power you want and will spool faster than the GT30 (as long as you dont have it a few months and want to up the power).

To get that a Turbo technics will do it S148, With a good std bottom end and about 1.2bar combined with 540 inj and aftermarket ecu you should have a reliable road car. If our after a lot of track action go the usual forge engine route and the above.. You will need a clutch also.

Turbo £700
Injectors £100ish
ECU about £1500 inc mapping if you shop around
Clutch £300 +
+ Labour

So £3k should get you a good road car £5k + will get you a good track car..

Agreed. The 2876 is a perfect turbo for this
