[Mk2] [Turbo] EGT Probe - to use, or not to use?

Post by m3ech »

Hi!

I’ve just bought a Berk down pipe for my Rev 3 tubby. Super fast delivery – cheers Chris :thumleft: I’m very happy with the kit – the quality looks amazing. I do however have a slight concern; the down pipe hasn’t got a port for me to install the stock exhaust temperature probe! Will I have any consequences for not using this sensor/ probe and simply unplugging it?

Cheers

Unplug it, throw it in the bin and cable tie the clip up out of the way :thumleft:

No, he's refering (I hope!) to the probe at the bottom of the CAT which is the over temperature probe. I don't think I've even heard of anyone have the probe detect a problem, even when the CAT has collapsed :?

Yea, referring to the temp probe after the cat, not the lambda :thumleft:

I have fitted the de-cat today and not bothered with the probe. The car seems to run fine \:D/ but I do have a warning light on the dash. It’s the red one that looks like a pie with heat waves coming up from it. Is this just a coincidence, or have I disturbed something while yanking out the old cat? Is there a reset procedure to shut the light off?

Cheers for the help

Yeah the warning light you're refering to is the cat over temp light.

Check you've not shorted the wires together somehow on the plug that goes into the loom.
