[Mk2] [Turbo] Is there such a thing a s a silent dump valve?

Post by DNOS808 »

Hi
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a dump valve that does not make the pssst sound? The dump valve on my rev2 Mk2 turbo is very loud and I am hoping to change it for one that is silent or at least one that is quieter.

Go with the stock recirc one.
Probably even better on a rev2 then an aftermarket one.

I might even buy your bov... if it's the one i'm after  :thumleft:

just recirc it into the intake pipe like the stock one does
(if your dump valve has that option)

Standard Re-Circ is probably your best bet... and possibly air intake tract too to make it super-quiet.

^^^ What he said - they're pretty quiet with the stock airbox in place.

I've got the stock one recirculating with an Apexi filter and it's fairly subtle but still noticeable

Thank you all for your replies.

I have a standard Toyota recirculating valve but I am reluctant to go down the recirculating route because I am a bit worried about the temperature of the air going into the engine. After compression by the turbo the air is over 100 degrees I believe. I have heard that this high temp makes the engine more prone to detonation.

Does any one know if recirculating increases the charge temperature and if so does that increase the chances of detonation?

Maybe if you didn't have an intercooler 8-[ Coupled with the fact that the "dumped" air will once again go through the intercooler (after the turbocharger) and it's not that large a volume of air I'd say you're overly worrying.

If it was that bad, Toyota wouldn't have done it that way as stock ;)

When your dump valve will recirc, you wont be on the throttle anyway. Also, it has to pass through the intercooler before it gets back into the engine. And the amount of air dumped will be so little it will make hardly any difference.

Dump valve

Thanks for all the great answers. I feel reassured enough to give the Toyota recirculating valve a go. Hopefully it came with all of the required pipework to fit.

You will actaully notice a slight performance increase with it on ;) :thumleft:
