Mk1.3 its going to happen

Post by Tiny »

I have been doing alot of research into this and i cant find anyone in the UK or Europe who has tried a Starlet turbo engine 4E-FTE into an AW11. However it has been done in south america (in a Black Mk1 too 8-) )

Engine is Lighter than the 4A and the 3S-GTE and with VERY minor tweaking 170hp is available. With it being in the back the stock IC will come off and be replaced with some form of chargecooler arrangment.

The Best thing is It bolts straight to the Mk1 gearbox and Mounts

Could have it done in a weekend just got to figure out the plumbing and the Electrics but nothing at this precise moment in time seems insurmountable. :+:

I will keep you posted :+:

You could start by telling us what engine it is, guessing a 4E-FTE?

Good luck with this, I can help find the engine via the two Starlet/Glanza forums I frequent if you like..

Hopefully James down at 3S has an engine hanging about down at 3S already. :thumleft:

And Yes Ollie would like the details of those forums for parts etc. :thumleft:

For 170bhp it hardly seems worth it really. Lot of effort to go into it, same effort really as goesinto putting in turbo lump. I'd go turbo lump, I know 4A-FTE would be diferent but...

Are you sure it will bolt straight up? Gearbox end, yes, but cam belt end?

I'm sure there used to be a guy on the 1/4 mile table with a starlet engined MK1, can't seem to spot it now but I recall thinking it an unusual swap.

Here you go:

http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/ - this is the biggest one

Also:

http://www.ukstarletclub.com/forums/index.php?

You can take those engine a lot further than 170BHP as wel, there are some on TGTT running well over 200BHP

Also get a head off a SERA engine for more power.

Hey put a post for you on mr2mk1club:

I've fitted several 4E-FTEs, never on a MR2 but I know the ECU (all variants 2 plug, 3 plug, AT, MT) like the palm of my hand.

Have modded those engines too. We had a Starlet in Malta running 12.6 at the strip (and it wasn't set up for that - but set for hill climbs, so more handling then pure straight line speed and a useable torque range as opposed to narrow top end).

Amazing engines- but becoming rare.

This was my first 4E-FTE install, was 16 at the time and new so little about ECUs back then...

http://www.kyokudoracing.com/car_ndr.html

5E-FTHE/FTE (Using the Toyota Sera/Cynos/Paseo block and internals) route is supposedly more powerful, but less revy (same broke - longer stroke - means pistons have to travel a longer linear distance in the same, means more stresses on the components).

I personally like sticking to the 4E-FTE there is so much you can do on a 4E-FTE setup it is really sick...

Also head to Toyotagtturbo.com but caution.. loads of idiots there now. I used to be technical mod and then became super mod but as of about 2 years ago... I just left, too many xxxx now... most of the old community doesn't go there anymore in fact.

UKstartletclub is not too bad.
