[All] [Generic] SMR ENGINES!!!!

Post by glimited2000 »

Maybe I should have looked into this company before buying an engine from them! As you may have read that I had my engine replaced with a reconditioned engine from SMR, since having the engine fitted my car was overheating and chucking water out. I have now found out from the garage that the headgasket has gone!! I feel so gutted as I have just spent £1200 on fitting the engine and now have been quoted £600-£800 pound to get the head gasket sorted. Does anyone know if I have a leg to stand on with SMR engines?
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks

Yes you do, go straight to trading standards, and open a complaint.

You will get your money back

Have you contacted the company that supplied and fitted the engine?, when was it done(the transplant)?, how many miles have you done since?, who did the service or was it themselves?, was the engine supplied with a warranty ?

as above

trading standard laws do set out a minimum standard for most purchases, but any authority (such as the small claims court) would expect you to try and resolve the issue in the first place.

I'd get your issues into a letter - be fair but firm that you expect a replacement or refund because their engine was not fit for purpose etc.

that is of course if you're sure you've not knackered it yourself by doing some poor servicing, or been ragging it for 8 months.

hope this helps

I have been bitten by them too :(

Sorry to hear you have been bitten by SMR. You really should have asked before buying from then but the phrase horse bolted door etc springs to mind.

SMR are a bunch of cowboys and they have a 6months from date of purchase and a 500 mile warranty period but they will only cover the cost of their engine not the fitting you have had to fork out. They keep getting away with it though as people dont follow up and claim you will get your money back but without going small claims you wont get your fitting.

Sorry :(

As per that thread, old engines sprayed silver do not constitute a rebuilt motor, i doubt they even take the plugs out let alone strip the engine down.

Tony

I had an SMR engine via this outfit (nee MDKL - they keep trading under different names to get round the law) and they're just plain wrong. They just stuff any old head on any old block (regardless of model year and whether it's a Legacy/WRX/STi) and mail order it out on a pallette...

My HG went after a year and when ZEN opened it up, the heads were held on with dowels and twine!!!!!!! (ZEN couldn't believe how it lasted even a year!)

Go figure...I'm now the happy owner of a proper ZEN-built motor.
Do it RIGHT!... do it ONCE! (I leant this the the hard way )

Right-o, dont think i'll be going anywhere near them. Thanks guys.

Buy cheap, buy twice I say! Don't use them whatever you do, complete rip off merchants. I've had a few people come to me after getting duff engines from them (whatever they call themselves).

This company are bogus.
Check this link and google them as much as you can.
http://www.usedcarmart.co.uk/forum/t205 ... mited.html
There are contact s here to help build a case.

The are suppliers or supply MrEngines. who have just disappeared of the globe as we speak. Nipponautospares in Derby are also affiliated.

Check my other posts for all the trouble I and others have had just to get an engine. ( I am waiting for the horror stories when its fitted 8-[

These people need to be brought to trial for timewasting, fraud and general bad business pratice, deception.....the list is endless.

Quality is a word NEVER associated with these.

Go straight to Trading Standards now while MrEngine is vapourising I believe.

In feb 2010 ibought an smr engine but when it arrived it was the wrong unit however they kept insisting that wrong was right. In the end agreed to take it back but told me they require a restocking fee 25% of the £1100.After speaking to consumer rights i informed them this was ilegal andthere reply was i,m not bothered take me to court i coudnt care less.So after hours of reading forum letters and realizing i should of done my home work before purchase because i was definatly dealing with wyat hearp and his crew.Anyway i read so many letters about them and it quickly became obvious like so many others i was not very hopefull of seeing a penny refund. Then i came across a letter where someone said the buissines was registered to Kensington Gardens Ilford IG1 3EL.By this point by the way they had decided to ignore all my calls and e-mails or return any earlier promises to contact me,so i decided to send a simple e-mail saying this KENSINGTON GARDENS LOOKS A NICE PLACE FOR A VISIT wich by the way it does just check it out on street view google.Within 10 mins of this e-mail the guy was on the phone to me saying theres no need for all of this we just want to pick up the unit and give you a full refund'and guess what within 10 days thats just what happened. One other thing phone and speake to ideal engines as i did and a guy with a canadian accent (real doubt it)says he does not know smr but when the unit was taken back i spoke to smr who said yes it just arrived back 15 mins ago and the return consignment note was to ideal engines 'it doesnt take much to work out the b------- there!!.Also as the crow flies theres probably less than two miles between kensington gardens ideal engines base ,just by chance I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT.

Something i forgot to mention in my letter above, i made my deal over the phone with smr,my unit came from ideal, and my money went to mdlk.If you ask me they are all under the same roof laughing at their confused victims.By the way i meant to say as the crow flies there is not more than two miles between kensington gardens (smr)and ideal engines unit1 davenport centre (a short jaunt to the office).

I got ripped on an Escort RS back in the day. After fruitless phonecalls went back with the car and a load of mates. Parked my car in the door to their business and locked it. Sat there with my mates till they gave a refund. They refused and said they'd call the police. We said go on then, no, in fact 'I'LL' call the police. Should have seen their bluffing little faces. Police arrived and the guys quickly s**t themselves. Police took one look at the guys and the business and advised them that unless they want them to go through the paperwork of every other car in their warehouse right now, they'd advise I get my money back!

I got it back!

have to hand it to them, top performance from Kent police!
