[Mk2] [Turbo] ignition timing// 10 degrees or 12??

ive read a post recently that 12 degrees will give more power.. true or not?

not quite, more advance will give more power but at the risk of more detonation. You will probably find that most 3S's can run at 12deg advance with 99ron fuel.

Messing around with timing is something which in my opinion should only be done using det cans and prefferably on a dyno to see if your actualy getting anymore power for your increased risk of detonation.

Naturally with higher octane you can run more timing, hence why you can get so much more power with race gas, its not simply the fact your putting higher octane fuel in, its the fact you can dial considerably more timing in because your less prone to detonation with the higher octane

well this is why ive just set it to 10 degrees, i was just wondering if 12 was gonna be better. sounds like its a lottery result tho. maybee good or may wreck it.

i have run 12 in the past with 50/50 water methanol injection, but would just run 10 if i was you, just a question did you short te1 & e1 when you set the timing ??

yeah mate i did short the te1 and e1 when setting.

give that turbo's are set to 10 degrees stock and designed for 100RON japanese market fuel, thats a dangerous statement IMO.
