GB 3.0: SW20 Front Anti Sway Bar Reinforcement Plates

Post by MRGEN3TURBO »

Hey guys,

First group buy info can be found here:
http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... 6a6682e3fe

Benefits of these reinforcement plates as compared to versions from various US offerings.

• Manufactured from Grade 304 Stainless steel for corrosion resistance.

• Weigh 30% less, a significant weight saving – same thickness and strength but redesigned and improved profile.

All MR2's have a unitary front end as opposed to a separate sub frame structure. As such the front suspension & sway bar mounting points are incorporated into the chassis. But a failing is the relatively weak structure where the front sway bar mounts with the body. This leads to potential cracking of the mounting points with age & use, very common with revision 1 cars, especially in Aus & NZ with our relatively rough roads. Pic far below are of corrective welding on a rev 1 SW20 of sway bar mounting points as a result of cracking.

Although the sway bar mounting points were redesigned in revision 2 onward cars with a stud mounted each side, deep into the body, they are still susceptible to cracking from increased loads such as stiffer front anti sway bars (whiteline et al) and frequent race/track/hard driving).

The reinforcement plates on offer provide a form of insurance against cracking and premature failure. However they do not correct the damage in already compromised cars which require welding & corrective work to rectify.

I expect these to be manufactured within the next fortnight, and from our last experience allow at least 2 weeks for air freight (but this was excessive and I would not think 'normal').

Please post here for orders.

Price is 62 pounds per pair plus postage from Germany.

By the way for those not in the UK, payment in Euros is ok. I just need to confirm with Phil, the German distributor the exact current price as exchange rates have changed much since the last buy.
