[Mk2] [Turbo] Apexi Power FC engine management light on constantly, help

Post by dbiagioni »

Iv just fitted an apexi power fc to my mr2 and the engine managment light stayed illuminated when the car was started. The power fc has been reset to a standard rev 3 map (im told)

Iv turned the car off and have not driven it. (Straight online to work out how to find whats wrong) The car idled perfectly and sounded sweet.

Its been fitted to a rev 2 with a rev 3 conversion, no management light on constantly previously and i had error codes 23 and 47 before fitting on the old ecu.

How can i check whats wrong or where can i find instructions for it.

No idea what code 23 is but 47 is secondary throttle
Position sensor. I'd look into fixing these issues before trying running with the power fc personally. Try plugging rev 3 ecu back in and re checking the codes then trying ideas on here to rectify.

on my power fc i either have a reading in numbers or if i have less parameters on display it is a scale made up of about 10 blocks...

What made you think knock sensor? How far have you got with checking things? Have you tried putting stock ECU back on to attempt correcting he cars issues? (Can't remember if you can read fault codes with PFC! Never tried)

Error codes

Post by dbiagioni »

The error codes im getting are common on a rev 2 to rev 3 conversion.

I know these could be the problem, but im not really sure what to check etc.

I went for the knock sensor as the commander was not showing numbers but that was because i had too many items on the display.

Any ideas on what to change or try?, i have a couple of mr2 turbos so can try different sensors etc

Ill try to roughly remember where you need to go, turn the ignition on and go to "ETC" i think it is from the main menu, there is a sub menu for sw/sensor check

Make sure none are lit up black and that they are all getting voltage readings, im more than sure they light up black if theres an error associated with it. The only sensor which will show 0.00v is the o2 sensor until the car is running.

Try from there

I believe error 23 is an 'manifold air temperature sensor' error if it's the same as for the ST205.

Have you fitted a temperature sensor in the manifold?

You do need to fit one when doing the rev 3 conversion from a rev 2 setup. It wont function correctly at all without this.

You need a manifold temp sensor from a revision 3 engine.

Im pretty sure it wires across THAM and E2 on the ecu

Sorry to raise an old post,
but this car now owns me.

on collection dave advised about the management light being on,didnt affect the journey at all,

i read this post and went into ETC on the commander,
just as you said graham the sensor check showed it as black with zero reading.

i checked the wiring to and from the mat sensor and it was fine.

i did notice the ait sensor hanging loosely down by the gearbox,
the blue/orange stripe wire was broken,i re-soldered it clipped the sensor back into the holder on the underside of the engine lid,
started the car,and the management light is no longer lit.
i looked at the ETC sensor check on the hand commander and it is now lit green and reading ok.

what puzzels me is with the car running, the o2s check is green but allways shows 0.00
doesnt sound right to me.

Pretty sure my o2 stayed at 0.00 when I done the conversion on my old rev2. I didn't use the 4wire o2 sensor from a rev3+ as it wasn't needed when mapping on the powerfc.

I asume the car is properly mapped??? As the base map made my car knock loads when I was testing things.

hey jim

Thats reassuring about the o2 sensor readings, sounds just like mine,so im
happier with that now.

Mapping.....good question,i understand that the pfc lost its map prior to me picking it up,and that the car is running on wastegate pressure only,
looking at the knock readings it only reads 1,or on the graph shows nothing untoward,
however looking at ignition timing even at idle it seems to flutter between 8 and 12,not sure whether thats right or wrong me being new to the pfc
would appreciate it if you have any thoughts on that,

thanks

1?! is that all the time or you mean when on idle?
if you press either up or right (can't remember off top of my head) on the commander, then it will record the peak readings. have a check as to what readings you are getting, but i'd expct more than 1 knock reading just from firing up!

if its reading 1, i would hazard a guess something is a miss there.
cause even under light driving and light boosting, you will get some response from the knock sensor...

hi
ok ive had a closer look at the commander,
when you go into the live knock graph(not sure what its called)
and rev a little, the graph registers a black bar ,
lay of the revs and this returns to normal,
so would i be right in saying that appears normal?

thx

my knock readings are also 1 and i was advised to get a new knock sensor, havent fitted it yet to see if it makes a difference though...

my ignition timing on idle goes between 10 and 14 :?
