Another bank holiday means another days progress on the 8, more bodywork done, most of the passenger side is ready for a high build primer coat now...

Just a few little areas that need attention...

Another new mod today, part of cleaning up the bodywork with less clutter included getting rid of the eyebrows on the front bumper, which of course then leaves a large gap between the light cover and the bumper. I chopped up two covers and made one extended one out of them, this now extends into the bumper and has the same panel gap running all the way around the cover, it looks so much cleaner.

With the light up, a reminder i've made some Rogue Mk2 lights fit on the Mk1, they had to be altered a lot to make it work on a Mk1.

Still need to modify the light shrouds too but it's really starting to come together now. Thanks to Jay for his help bouncing ideas off as usual, he has a good eye for these things.

I spotted this in a previous photo and was pretty certain it was one of our kits. Would definitely have required some fettling to make them fit a mk1!

An unbelievable amount of work to be honest Patrick, new hinge points, shorter push rod, trimmed the casing down, lots of other mods, i'd never do it again! Nice bit of kit though :thumleft:

Do you keep any spares for the lights? I'm after some of the plastic ball joint clips that the adjusters sit inside.

Toyota really need to get you working on the FT-86 project. I'm sure it would come out looking a lot better if you and Jay were involved.

Yeah the Ft-86 is a bit of an ugly duckling, problem is if i was on the design team it would come out looking more like a Mk1 :D , not sure that's what Toyota are looking for at the moment!

Or maybe make it link better to the AE86? After all it's leaning heavily on the heritage.

Have you not finished that bit of bodywork yet?! :)

Looking good Paul! Can't wait to see the shiny paint revealing the new lines of this car!

I note that a guy over on TB (orion) is designing Mk.2 low rise pop-ups and I'm going to try to get these work in a Mk.1 when he gets them sorted for the Mk.2

How did you come to the idea of extending the light shrouds instead of filling in the bumper to cover up the eyebrows? Again, this is another mod I am keen on. I've never liked the eyebrows, and seemingly, a lack of good spares isn't helping.

It is much easier to build the bumper up to the existing headlight cover to bridge the gap if you want to get rid of the eyebrows, however the Rogue lights extended a little into the eyebrow area when up, there was nothing i could do about it, so i had to extend the covers into the bumper instead, but i think it looks great, sort of an S13 look about it now.

Yeah, the extended covers do look good, and if the lights demand it, such is life.

I like those S13's a lot - one project at a time!

I saw your mk.1 mod thread over on TB. It's looking good too.

Another bank holiday means more V8 work, and i got a ton of stuff done, the other headlight got fitted and also extended the headlight cover as i did the right one, then i got some high build primer onto some repaired areas to get an idea how this thing is going to look and also get an idea how my repairs and modifications are coming along...

Door blend has gone well, smooth as marble...

There will be another 2 or 3 coats of this high build with flatting off in between before it is ready for the final primer which will be grey, then the silver basecoat can go on.

Do you have something interesting lined up for the side lights? or are you using standard?

Front end is looking good Paul, I reckon you need to lose that raised ridge on the back edge of the bumper where it meets the bonnet now though too.
