best place for a forged rebuild?

Post by mattymr2 »

my rev 3 turbo engine needs a rebuild due to a cracked piston in cylinder 3. :pale:

the cars always been warmed up and cooled down and has had 2 oil changes in 4000 miles in the 2 and half years of onwership.

i am now deciding wether to break it, source a second hand engine and have an engine transplant, or have my current one fully rebuilt.

i have had a quote from rogue, drive in and out basic rebuild with forged pistons for around £3000....

who out theres had rebuilds? whos good value? sbits? 3s?

thanks

I would hate to be in this position, £3000 for a rebuild OR buy a complete 2 for £3000, swap parts over and then strip the rest for parts to make some money back OR put the £3000 towards a newer Rev5

I bought a mint low mileage rev4 motor for about £900 from Gts chris, bought a load of gaskets and other bits and then had Luke @ pacific fit it all.

It might work out even cheaper for you because I went from a rev2 motor to the rev4 one, so I had to get a loom and other ancillaries, sensors, ecu etc which upped the cost for me. If you already have a rev3 car you will only need the longblock anyway.

If you arent going for megapower I dont see the point in a forged build realy.

most of the cost is labour, , extortionate if you ask me but that's the mechanics game,

i have a rev3 turbo engine i am about to split, think bry wanted first dibs but i am going to be sending him a pm to see, are you able to drop the engine yourself mate ?

Yeah but it is pretty labour intensive + I shudder to think what Toyota would charge for an engine change let alone a rebuild @ £75 an hour +VAT!!!!

I feel for you chap I'm in the same boat at the moment :(

I'd be talking to Century Motorsport or Rogue personally...

my advice would be to try and do most of the work yourself if you can, drop the engine, strip is, and send away parts to be done by pros if necessary. that's essentially what i'm doing right now and so far its been a breeze.

just my 2p :silent:

Another vote for Patrick, Matt, Tony and Lyndon at Rogue. They built me a beauty and kept me up to date with regular pics and info. Was consulted all the way through the process and given options as well.
Here are a few pics of their handiwork.

I would speak to Nathan @ Century. Very reasonably priced and someone I would trust do work on my Car.

Craig.

Hi
I think I've sourced a pre built lump, so fingers crossed I'll have it in by the time the world record attempt rolls around :D
