Is this a TRD???

Post by Munnsy »

Right im after some info for my uncle,

He is after an mr2 of some sort and this guy has mailed hime regarding his suposid trd mr2 :-k
Now i dont know much about the trd but i always thought that trd only ever did 300 or so cars and they were all widebody hence my confusion when my uncle phoned up and asked about this.

The guy selling this said that it was a genuine one, however no paperwork etc to prove.
My uncle will be sending me all the emails he recieved from this guy and i will try and forward these onto here.

He has been offered a straight swap for his scooby doo but to be honest, i really dont think this is a trd and he is trying to pull the wool over evryones eyes.

Ill leave it up to you guys, but i think im along the right lines here

Someone please post up some official info on the trd just so we can throw this back at the advert,
cheers guys

Well its not wide bodied and its an N/A. I believe "topgun" on mr2oc has a trd widebody N/A so maybe worth asking him about it? but I believe his is a 2.2 litre :-k and is defo a widebody so I dont believe it. Ask for engine shots and of the vin plate Im sure there would be TRD all over the place if it was genuine

"to give you an idea of a standard form pre TRD is 158bhp" Didnt they only make TRD rev3 +? That would make it 179? standard.

"the stainless exhaust and Induction filter add anywhere from 25 to 30bhp"
I can safely say I have not gained 5hp from mine

I think the thing that opened my uncles eyes was the price tag of his, to the money his scooby owes him

I thought it was worth asking the question though

There was a mixture between turbos and NAs, old and new cars built :thumleft:

36 is the number i have been given by the guys at TRD - usual rumour is around 35. This is just the cars built at TRD, there were a lot more kits sold around the world that were moulded by TRD, but only these 36 came with the TRD VIN plate :thumleft: HTH

Ps. Please do post up this guys emails :oldtongue: :clown:

heres one email guys :thumleft:

read this dave the turbo spec TRD mr2s are not for road use, this is the road version that they sold to fund the Gtc races, the wide body is actually a optional extra which trd exported 25 kits to america at a cost of £4000, the last fully fledged TRD wide body twin turbo 500bhp was sold to Toyota Uk manager and he paid £16,000 for it, the TRD 5mt which is my version the last one to sell in japan was 1,097,000 yen that works out roughly £8000, i saw a mr2 trd 5mt on here last week in nagosaki, japan, for sale it reached £3550 and then they removed the auction, it was red but it had solid roof not like mine with the tbar, the only TRDs that came with a plate are the not for road use plate stamped on them so if it was one of the wide body ones you wouldn't be allowed to use it on the road as TRD when released thought 500bhp twin turbo was too much for the road (Lemans type car) mine was the cut down road version as i said pre, it has the TRD parts fitted LSD Big valve head racing manifold
