As above could the thermostat cause this ?
also the boost gauge only moves when i floor the accelerator, shoots to the top then back down again,
also after a drive the engine sounds like its boiling up (7 miles or so)
Ive tried bleeding the system but no changes
Temp gauge not going over quarter way

Re: Temp gauge not going over quarter way
If the thermostat was stuck "open" it would cause the car to run colder, (probably effect the gague like you describe)
But, if it was stuck "closed" the engine would overheat. (like you describe)
Sounds like you have both problems so probably not the thermostat.
I'd try bleeding the system again, maybe check for leaks, as i dont know of a single coolant component that can cause the gauge the show cold while the engine is boiling.
Only air in the system can cause this. (as far as i know)
The gauge has a sensor that could be faulty (single wire sensor on water outlet manifold) but it wouldn't cause the water to boil, only affect the gauge reading.

Re: Temp gauge not going over quarter way
any heat from the heaters? Do the front radiator pipes get warm at all? If no then likely thermostat stuck open.
Re: Temp gauge not going over quarter way
Worth getting as compression test IMO, as does sound like it could be head gasket
Re: Temp gauge not going over quarter way
Try temp gauge sensor.

Hope not ,car runs ok apart from this ,but ill do a check at the weekend

Thats my next shot regarding the gauge
cheers all

Hopefully its just a sensor. Just thought I would mention it as other people have had similar symptoms.
