[Mk2] [Turbo] Air Fuel Controller-recommendations?

Post by jadapc »

Hi, Just wanted to know what the options are to set up the air fuel ratio for a bolt on modified rev3 turbo. is it worth getting the apexi safc controllers or similar, or can it be done on a dyno with the oem ecu?
Thanks

Save your money and buy a standalone engine management !!

I had an SAFCII.. which was good.. but a b1tch to tune as the stock map ignition goes all over the place when the load is removed ( map sensor adjustments )

Thanks. Is that the best value way to do it. As I'm not really going to have a big power build, so I thought a stand along would have been a bit OTT. Can the stock ecu be tuned for the afr?

Stock ecu - pretty much a dead end.

Standalone is the way forward as although the initial outlay can be high, you'll always get your money back on it should you come to the time where you want to put the car down the road. Can retrofit your stock ecu and sell the standalone for usually around 75% of the original value. Always in demand.

SAFC's a pretty much a dead market like all air fuel controllers.

You'll get far more gains from a standalone too ! :thumleft:

Apexi SAFC is a total waste of money IMO plus there's the added bonus of killing your engine with it if you get it wrong.

Get a standalone cos it's worth every penny then call Ryan to map it. :thumleft:

How high power do you want to go?

The stock ecu is good for 300bhp

300 will be alright for me. Its just I've upped the boost with an ebc and going to fit a different SMIC so just want something to map the car with those usual bolt on mods to get the most power out of everything.

Is it a rev3?

Iv got a rev3 with uprated SMIC, decat, exhaust, intake, and greddy EBC@ 1.15bar and the stock ecu does fine. Overfuels a bit on boost, but at least its safe.

If you want to map, then standalone is the best way really, like Power FC or Link etc

The stock ECU is good for over 300, like someone said.

Standalone is the way foreward, but only if you have the cash available.

PFC is tried, tested and Ryan is your man for mapping, end of :)
