[Mk2] [Turbo] Bong bonger? - or reminders if you're posh. Stopped working

Post by davidmit »

Up until a week or so ago my car would 'bong' when the key was in the ignition with the door open, and 'bong' some more when the lights were on and the door was open, but now nothing.

Reading around it looks like they are connects to different buzzers, can someone give me a hint on where is best to look for the cause?

The lights come on when I open the door so the switch must be working fine. So I don't know where to look, is there a 'bong bonger' (or reminder) fuse?

I HAVE A FEELING THE BONGERS ARE LABELLED OR MARKED IN SOME WAY THEY COULD BE BROWN IN COLOUR AND SIT BEHIND THE FASCIA NEAR THE CIGGY LIGHTER.

seems strange if there is one for ignition reminder and one for lights that they would both stop working together? #-o

Hi dave Toxo sent me a dash layout outlining bongers, there must be two of them. I have the key in ignition bong, but not the lights on bong and been caught out a couple of times with leaving the sidelights on all day thus flat battery. Let us know if you find these bongers ive been caught up with full respray stuff and havent had a chance to look yet. Ask Toxo hell send you the diagrams. Rob.

I'll have a look on the oc, I need to take the dash off to fiddle with my carputer on the weekend so I'll find the damn thing then.

I left my lights on yesterday due to no beeper, luckily I spotted it an hour later.

Still can't see there being two, too unlikely that both would go together so maybe there is only one.

When I find it I'll post back

I've got a headlight reminder "beeeeeeeeper" but no key-in-ignition "bonger"...

Heard about key bongers for the first time ever last week :-k

Theres two reminders ,one for the ignition marked "key reminder"
and one for the side lights marked "light reminder "

The key reminder is a black box ? sat behind the heater controls and stereo
The light reminder is a white box ? sat next to the ciggy lighter by the steering column

Well thats where mine were i took both off ,because when working on the car it gets on your wick

Ooo ... I remember finding a plug with nothing on it once, behind the stereo.

Think that's my bonger then? without the bong section?

Bit of an old post I know but I can help out anyone who's having trouble with their bings and their bongs!

I've just removed my dash and disconnected the wire to the key reminder.

See my post here: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=121672

If both have stopped working, I would most deinately say it's a problem with the Red/orange stripe wire which travels from behind the drivers seat down the transmission tunnel.

Just remove your stereo/cubbyhole and behind the heater controls is the unit, unplug it.

Job done.

The light reminder buzzer is behind the cig lighter, fixed to the framework of the dash. Although I'd recommend leaving this as you don't want to end up with a flat battery!
