as you may know i have Harry's MR2 advertised for sale on Pistonheads.. I have received an e-mail afrom someone wanting to feature it a magazine but doesnt say which...?? Here's the e-mail.. What do we reckon - legit or not...??

Rash.

"Hi, my name is Si Johnston and I am a contributor to many UK and overseas tuning mags - including Max Power, Fast Ford, Jap Peformance, ADDX, XTreme Tuning, WorldCarFans and more - and was wondering if this amazing MR2 had been featured by a magazine before?

It is certainly one of the more interesting MR2s in the UK, and if not I'd be interested in arranging a shoot in the near future.

I promise this isn't some kind of e-mail scam, no money needs to change hands, I am just a car nut who luckily gets to combine his passion for modified cars with his day job! I can prove my credentials if required.

All the best,

Si. "

sounds genuine enough but just to make sure ask for his credentials, mags hes written in, does he have a website with his work etc...

and most importantly, how much he is going to pay you

Thats the bit that puts me off

no money needs to change hands

looks like he doesnt want to even pay you :D

Also did a google on his name and I couldnt find anything to do with Max Power etc..

If you do go through with it make sure you take someone with you, preferably some big Cage fighter style guy :D or go with a group of other cars just incase they do try something. Its a possibility that you have to think about. For all you know they might say meet me here you get there get out the car and a group of them turn up and nick the car off you!! Something similar to that happened to someone buying a car, he got their to buy the car on his own and a group of them got out the car he was going to buy and they beat him up, stole his money and left him nearly dead if Im not mistaken

oh and in PhoneJacker style -

Just e-mail the magazines he's mentioned for confirmation. Mail him back and ask which specific one is paying him for this particular story....

had the same thing happen to me regarding sale of one of my cars it was a bmw 323i i was selling guy came from walthomstow e17 country to buy it and no word of a lie 7 guys got out of the car and were very intimidating towards me all wearing hoodys and were over the car like a rash making me very uncomfortable,
i guy i knew down the road who lived in a bedsit had quite a few of his mates round i gave him a shout at his window and thay all came down real nasty looking guys they were funny enough after a short while thay all got back in the car, guy who wanted the car offered me silly amounts for the car after a short while he gave me full asking price £2300 and went all money checked all good,

just be very carefull more and more scams comming up every day thay are getting very clever indeed take friends and let people know where you are going, be nice to see it in a mag i know scary from fast car has a white tubby he is doing up :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

He might just be an independent writer, indeed I've been contacted by similar before - they don't work for the mag, but they find interesting cars, arrange a photoshoot, get the spec and tout it round a few mags to sell.

Doesn't seem that suspicious to me - just be careful like you would with any car sale, i.e. where you meet them etc.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd steer well clear of that!
Could well be trading on your enthusiasm to have your car featured in a mag, (We would nearly all like that), and when you get there who knows what will happen ? :pale:
