[Mk2] [NA] FE Automatic transmission

Hi Folks, well the little FE's reached 143,000 miles now and I'm suspecting the gearbox may be its financial death knell.
All is fine with the auto except when pulling away from standing. I get an appalling vibration/tramp and what sounds and feels like wheelspin. Once it gets going it picks up 2nd gear and runs fine. Any mechanics/specialists got ideas?

wonder if it needs just a flush and change of tranny oil... ?? When was the last time you checked the level ?? colouration ?!

defo check the oil .....i had that problem its like the wheels are skipping like wheelspin but bouncing in 1st then went away when it picked up
id never had auto and thought if the oil was low i would get a light

gearbox went blew the seals dumped auto fluid evrwere smoke 15 mph limping home

Checked oil level, okay and quite clean

not to sure then bud sounds like my symtoms at first

Drop the gear oil and inspect for metal.
After that jack up the back of the car and rotate the wheels to indentify if its 1 sided or both, could be a cv joint you see.
