[Mk2] [Turbo] my next stage of tuning!

Post by doeboy »

hi all
i have been doin a little research and have been chatting with a few people including my mapper and i have come up with a rough list for bits i need for the next stage of my tuning ventures with my mr2 turbo!
the list is as follows:

clutch capable of handling good torque levels and i want it to feel harder than stock but not to hard (possibly spec stage 3+)

turbo i have been recommended gt3071r
external wastegate with
screamer pipe

fuel pressure reg

fuel pressure defi guage in black

arp flywheel bolts

fuel pump

i am also after a oil cooler but i am thinking of doing a custom mocal one.

i have a toda flywheel waiting to go on aswell

would be happy to see the 400bhp@fly with those bits on my current setup which is at 315bhp@fly which is as follows:

Stock rev3 3s-gte engine and internals
Stock rev3 injectors (550cc)
Stock ct20b turbo running 1.2 bar boost
HKS EVC boost controller
HKS Superdrager exhaust
HKS SSQV blow off valve
Aussie de-cat downpipe
St205 celica GT4 chargecooler
Radtec pre-rad
Davis craig water pump
Denso ik24 spark plugs
8.5mm Magnecor leads
Copper contact dizzy cap
Apexi air filter
Apexi power FC ecu and commander
Rogue motorsport pro fan kit
i would like some suggestions from you all on other options with things such as turbo's, clutches etc...

i was also considering water/ methanol injection, what are the best kits available?
if there is anything else you think i may need then feel free to add your opinion it will be gratefully recieved, i am in minds whether to stick with the stock 550cc injectors and go for a fuel pressure regulator or just to put some bigger injectors in.

whats peoples veiw on this?

cheers

steve

You will need bigger injectors for that HP.

Will stock internals cope with that power?

They'll be a little on the heavy side, but with a good tune there is no reason why they shouldn't.

Steve, is this so you will be quicker than me at the next activity day at North Weald? haha.

Forged pistons would be a good move to make it nice and reliable.

Hi mate,

as said above you will need bigger injectors yours will be the near there max duty now.

A set of sard 800s should be plenty for your figure mate.

I am on a standard engine like you at the moment and i am running around 350+ at the fly..........i guess its luck of the draw if you run around 400.

How many people are running 400 on a stock bottom end in the uk?????

Be nice to find out???

Don't know too much about the Power FC, but would a stand-alone ECU be better?

But as said, injectors, forged pistons, etc..

injectors seem to be a recommended option and one i was swaying to.

what about internals?

anything else needed without it turning into a massive project?

AEM water/meth injection might be a good idea if you arent going to go forged, will keep them intake temps nice a low. Theres a thread on pistonheads, a guy fits it to his supra, says its really quite easy and not that expensive.

Also, I would defo go for bigger injectors and a Walbro fuel pump.

If you dont want a massive project mate i would stick around the 350mark.

If you want 400 you will need an engine rebuild for it to be reliable mate and that will cost a few k!!!!

Have you been in a mr2 thats pushing 350?? I know you came out in my old motor and that wa running 370 on that base map........now do you want more than that???

If so you will need forged internals fella.

You can push rev 3+ injectors to ~350 fwhp with an uprated pump, f/p regulator and standalone ECU. The Link is better than PFC.

If you can afford for your engine to break then run what you like, if not then Gee Man's advice is sensible IMO.
