[Mk2] [Turbo] TRD Topmounts advice

Post by ForMySin »

Heyya guys,

First of all to all you ppl who cant wait to moan about the search feature... tried it and cannot seem to find anything so apologies if im going over old ground

Recently rang Fensport to get my self a full set of topmounts for my Rev1 tubby only to find that the fronts are now discontinued, am in the middle of rebuilding the rears and am about to order the rears but wondered before i do if there is a suitable replacement and whether i should mix topmounts.

Any help would be fantastic, much appreciated

I don't think there'd be any problem with mixing Toyota & TRD topmounts.

Infact, for the fronts - I could see no difference whatsoever.
And the rears have no moving parts.

I did put up some pics in a thread a couple of months back. I'll have a looksy...

TRD (left) vs Toyota (right) front topmounts, as I said, I couldn't see any difference (apart from the price  )...

Personally I'd stick with your original rear topmounts depending on condition, as there's no moving parts then your old ones should be fine - although perhaps a little rusty. I had to remove some washers I had between my strut brace and the nuts due to the shorter threads on the TRD topmount.

Apparently there is a difference between the early and later revs in the front topmounts but I was told by Rogue I wouldn't notice the difference. That said I got the right TRD items from fensport only 2mths ago so surprised they can't get them anymore... Is it just the early ones they've discontinued?
Hope you find the appropriate bits....

For reference, new rear topmounts from toyota will also have shorter 'studs' on them like the TRD ones JohnnyC posted above. They are the only ones that are supplied now.

TRD and standard toyota are identical visually, but the TRD ones use a harder rubber compound apparently.

IMO its worth changing the rears, even though there are no moving parts- mcphearson struts rely on the topmounts to locate the suspension- any slop in the rubber of old topmounts translates into movement in the suspension.
